Catherine Takes It All Off

Dec 03, 2007 @ 2:17pm

Catherine McNeil for V.jpgThese days, we're quick to forget what a woman really looks like. When every picture you see is airbrushed, cropped, re-sized and beautified, it’s easy to get a very unnatural idea of the female face and body in your imagination.

That’s why we were so happy to see these pictures of Catherine McNeil as part of her diary posts for V. She’s clearly without any makeup at all (which is completely different from the well-blended, professional "no makeup look" of a Calvin Klein runway), and possibly just out of the shower.

Obviously Catherine was born with supermodel genes, but we still like the messy photos - especially since maintaining an image of uninterrupted beauty is a huge part of her job. The girl in these pictures is a far cry from the eye-lined, lip-stained sex bomb usually seen in magazines.

We're just wondering if anyone else out there would ever allow no-makeup photos (and online) of themselves.

She can pull it off but I never could and never would. I hate the way I look in photos when I am not wearing makeup. It's just awful.

aren't these pictures reminiscent of that brief time of our early adulthoods that we earnestly dedicated to truth... honesty... and ran around taking picture of ourselves in the bathroom?

the more i look at it, the stupider it seems.

natalie, i see where you were going with it, but catherine's posing takes away from the softness and simplicity of the perspective.

I have a lot of pictures without makeup on my facebook. I hardly wear makeup anyway, I prefer not to. If I wear it it's just some mascara.

I' 24 and I'm still a make-up virgin, so every photo displays it. I might just still be in that truth and honesty stage of life that Risha mentioned. I suppose its just a matter of what each person finds beautiful. I think make-up looks great on other people...on me, not so much.

I love Catherine's pictures though. She is obviously genetically superior.

Ditto for guest 3:52pm's comment. So many facebook pictures without makeup.
At first I would un-tag them if they weren't becoming, but my suitemate was/is and total photography junkie so there were loads of pics (many in my room, on lazy Sundays, etc) that I just figured, f*** it. Although, I do un-tag them if they're really bad, unless it's of a super cool moment.
Plus, I think about the people who'll be looking at those pictures, and chances are they've seen me without makeup anyway, so it's no biggie.
I'm not gonna go and frame them though...

Most of my vacation photos are makeup-less and I post them online. I'm not a big makeup junkie, though....Maybe as I age I should become one!
