Adventures in Copyrights: You're Either In, Or You're Forged

heidis jewels.jpg A few weeks ago, we asked if Heidi Klum's jewelry line looked a little too similar to Van Cleef and Arpel's signature Alhambra designs.

Apparently, Van Cleef's lawyers thought so, too:

This week, they announced they're seeking about $25,000 in damages from Ms. Klum and her jewelry company for copyright infringement.

We recognize they may not win, since the Alhambra shape is also very close to a classic clover, as seen in Lucky Charms cereal and also (sort of) in classic Louis Vuitton monogram.

We'll be following the case, and meanwhile, we do appreciate the irony of Klum hosting a show that constantly challenges designers to be as innovative and industrious as possible.

Also, we're still a little bitter that there's no new Project Runway tonight, but perhaps that's another story.

PS - Heidi's design is on the right; the original Van Cleef pendant is at left.
