Chanel Whites Out

Dec 07, 2007 @ 11:31am

Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour.JPGRemember back in fifth grade when, dying of boredom, you would paint your nails with Wite-Out?

Well, if you were a fan of the look (and even if you weren't,) brace yourself- Chanel is bringing it back with their new nail color, White Satin.

Peter Philips, Chanel's Creative Director for makeup, had the flip side to last year's megahit, Black Satin, worn by all the models at the recent Maison d'Art Collection show in London in a nod to 60's mod.

Beauty brands like Nars and OPI have had white nail polishes out for a while, but we know when Chanel gets in on a look, it's officially a trend.

The color won't be available until January, but don't worry- we're betting no one will be able to tell the difference between Chanel and Essie.

Personally, we think white nails are a little too arts-and-crafts to look cute- but what do you guys think?

It's been tough finding a replacement for Chanel Vamp.....
White is definitely too unpolished and the blue/turq trend is too young for me (I wore it from Hard Candy in Jr high!)
I've been wearing OPIs Cajun Shrimp (a favorite of mine forever)lately because it's a orange-y red. I'm thinking about a coral color for spring, like the one on the right or maybe a sheer orange. Not really edgy, but after the dark nail craze, what will seem edgy?!?!

But Mr. Karl sent white nails down the runway S/S 06. Chanel was doing white nails before black nails.

This is not a trend now that Chanel is selling the polish, it was a trend they created (-ish, as much anyone "creates" a trend) but just did not sell until now.

Anyway, I am thrilled. Chanel makes the best polish!

I wore white nails all summer. They look fantastic, but chip easily. Since the fall, true red has become my color of choice -- and purple or navy looks good, too!

It has to be the right white or you look like you were swimming too long. My perfect pale color-of-the-moment is OPI's Passion.

I'm trying to grow my nails out long enough to wear St. Petersburgundy for Christmas and New Year's (my annual flirt with red) and Passion makes you look like you have nails when you don't.

I like it, as long as it's done well...i.e., by a professional manicurist. And only on very short nails. Of course, I only like very short nails no matter what the colour.

for a brit girl, white nails are too essex-y. the beauty equivalent of white stilettos.

i prefer pale grey nails, but for years i haven't been able to find a suitable shade. hard candy used to do one ['pavement'] but discontinued it years ago.

right now i like super-glossy, deep forest-green nails.

I like having my nails all sorts of "odd" colors.

Currently they're acid purple, and they really stand out from all of the black polish you see on the girls out there.

I wore white nail polish for a while before I got tired of it; Sally Hansen 10 Day No Chip actually does what it claims to (or almost).

Chips on white nails are just as noticeable as their darker counterparts.

I've been on the white nails bandwagon for a while, but I'm stoked that Chanel's going to be there too, my lacquer of choice chips far too easily (she says staring at her freshly manicured, yet chipped nails).

Yeah, I agree with gen on the whole white nails equating white pumps, but white nails look quite striking against my dark complexion...

I have always liked white nails, and I agree that it does look best on short nails and when it isn't chipped, so it is hard to maintain. They look good in the summer because it compliments a tan. I usually wear white nails year round.

I'm over white nails, I wore them from February until August, when I switched to YSL purple. Then OPI's Russian Navy, and now I'm looking for something new.

I've tried every single nail colour in my life (having been painting my nails since 5th grade)... Painted nails are a must for me (I never show myself in chipped nails).

I was wearing white for a long time and it always got compliments. Most girls would love it and admit they would never dare. But if Chanel is on to it...

Correction: the only colour I haven't tried is Black. Because I was traumatized by goth chipped black nails in college and Avril Lavinge advising teenage girls to Sharpie their nails...

But I just promised myself I was going to bust out the "Black Satin", even if it's technically passé now. :P

I try to stay away from true black as it looks too "last year" I like the dark navys and plums (opi's lincon park after dark/after midnight)

I had tried the white at one point last year and i felt as if I was wearing white-out

I painted my nails white yesterday, planning to use it as a base color for a red or something of that sort. I couldnt decide what color, so i just left them white. Today at school, nobody commented them...is that a bad thing?

they are not professionally painted but they dont look THAT bad...

...has the "in" thing for white nail polished nails passed?
