Gemma: The Big Movie Trailer

Dec 17, 2007 @ 9:32am

The new movie trailer for The Black Balloon is out, and it actually looks like a very good film.

That's not the most surprising thing - Toni Colette usually doesn't do films unless they're exciting, and she's the lead. What really interested us was how much time Gemma got during the trailer - and how big her photo is on the movie poster (which you can see when you click below).

"Gemma is really famous in Australia," pointed out my friend from Melbourne. "Like really famous. Everyone on the street anywhere would know who she is, even though she's only really famous in the fashion world in America."

Ah yes, this is an Australian movie - which means we'll have to wait a while longer before we get it in the States. Though we imagine it'll be marketed the same way over here - after all, Gemma is so pretty that studio execs would probably put her face on absolutely anything to sell tickets!

I can't wait to see this. Remember when she guest edited Aussie Vogue a while back? That thing sold out really quickly in the US (even in DC and Chicago!), so perhaps Gemma's reach is widening.

I think Gemma Ward is probably for Australia what Gisele Bundchen is for Brazil. The woman is the biggest celeb around here. I mean, I know Gisele is more of a household name than Gemma in States but Gisele is huge around here, when that terrible movie, Taxi, premiered her name was bigger than Jimmy Kimmel and Queen Latifah since she's more famous than both of them and she sales at C&A increased by 40% when she started promoting for them (like two years ago).

The funny thing is, Brazil is the home of many many many topmodels but the average person certainly won't know must of them, Gisele is the only one that is a superstar. Raica is also quite know since she dated Ronaldo, Fernanda Tavares hosts a MTV show and dates a famous actor, Isabeli Fontana also dates a famous actor and Leticia Birkheuer is now an actress, but none of them achieved big celebrity status. The average persons have no idea who Carol Trentini is or Raquel Zimmerman or Adriana Lima.

Yes, definately a story that has been told many times in movies. Time will tell if she has real acting chops.

Mckeb753, :)
Gemma is not the only model who can actually act, Carolyn Murphy was praised by critics for her supporting role in Barry Levinson's film, Liberty Heights. Despite most people's idea that models can't make the transition a la Cindy Crawford, there have been fashion models who made the hard transition into acting. Some of the models who went from being on the cover of Vogue to films are: Marisa Berenson, Isabella Rossellini, Shari Belafonte, Andie MacDowell, Amber Valetta, Brook Shields, Lauren Hutton and Rene Russo.

it's alot like that other australian movie that just came out.. clubland. Young kids falling in love, mentally handicapped brother.
How odd.

don't you think saying that a movie is the same as another simply because there's a mentally challenged person in both is a little like saying a movie about two people falling in love is the same as all the other movies about two people falling in love?
Or that all movies about black people, or asian people or white people are all the same?
Just sounds a little narrow minded to me.

Oh and btw - Guy Pearce got his start in Home and Away so I don't think you should pass judgement on an actor for that.
