Know When To Fold ‘Em

in the fold.jpg

Staring at Zac Posen’s latest Pre-Fall collection, we saw a sort of trend with folding sheets of fabric down the front of a dress. It starts with Marc Jacobs’ one-shouldered folded mini-dress, then continues to Proenza Schouler’s pleated shift dress, and simmers with Zac, where he’s taken folded pink fabric and wound it into a pleated bow - a subversive take on the pink satin sashes that usually go around a party dress waist.

I love the Proenza Schouler dress but the Zac Posen one strikes me as a little ... er, Jessica McClintock for lack of a better description.

correct me if i'm wrong, but didn't the proenza dress technically appear on the runway before the marc dress?

i don't think i've ever heard the words zac posen and subversive used in the same sentence without "incredibly un" included as a linking adverb.

mckeb, I think you're right.

I'm a fan of the ZP dress. Now if only I had a fab lifestyle and parties to wear it to..

The Zac Posen dress is beautiful. The pink and black is un peu "Jessica Mclintock" but the shape is fabulous. The marc isn't incredibly...wearable.

Hmm. Didn't Elisa do this same technique on the last week's episode of Runway? The judges hated the folding but I thought it was interesting.
