Naomi Campbell: Journalist?

Naomi Campbell.jpgIt looks like beauty will get you in just about anywhere.

Just two months after her October meeting with Hugo Chavez, Naomi Campbell is out to score another high-profile interview, this time with Chavez’ personal friend, Cuban leader Fidel Castro.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Campbell is planning on staying in Cuba as long as it takes, saying that she’ll even spend Christmas with him “if that’s what it takes.”

According to Vogue UK, the two interviews are the first in a series of interviews by Campbell to be featured in GQ. Next on her list? French President Sarkozy.

We don’t know if this is incredibly cool (maybe Naomi Campbell is the new Oriana Fallaci?) or an incredible waste - there are countless journalists who would kill to have this kind of access, and who would undoubtedly have the journalistic experience to handle it appropriately.

But maybe some kind of interview (both Chavez and Castro are notoriously silent to the press) is better than no interview at all?

And more pressing - do you think she’ll wear a Che Guevara tee?

Chavez and Castro, silent? You're kidding, right? Castro may have been hiding since he got sick, but these two are some of the biggest talkers around. (Though they are no friend to press freedom in their own countries, that is true.)

In any case, the idea of Naomi Campbell interviewing them is embarrassing and a waste, unless she has some kind of serious background on the subject.

Background? Ha. Does anyone remember when Naomi Campbell wrote a book, I believe it was called "Swan", with a ghostwriter (cough, paid someone else to write it, cough). It failed miserably. It angers me that famous people get to switch occupations at the drop of a hat, regardless of how many years of school and training, the rest of us put in. . .

i don't blame Naomi for switching occupations, I blame the editors, publishers and owners who give her the jobs. It's your guys' bosses....you know who you are.
