Natalie Portman Is So Annoyed With Celebrity Fashion, She’s Designing Shoes

natalie.jpg The sweet veggie news for today is that Natalie Portman will design a shoe range for the Soho boutique Te Casan.

The shoes are vegan friendly, and debut in February, which should make for a very fun party complete with Natalie Portman on everyone’s camera phone rosters.

We like Natalie Portman very much, but when we heard the footwear news, we had to smile and remember this quote from the actress, widely circulated in the celebrity columns last month:

“I get pissed off that I go to a premiere to talk about my movie and the first thing they ask me is what dress I’m wearing. And look, I buy into that because I play along - you have to, in a certain way. If you don’t dress up then they’ll talk about that! It almost becomes less of an issue to play along with it, because then it doesn’t become a conversation topic. But that’s annoying.”

Maybe not annoying enough, huh?

The shoes will cost about $200, far cheaper than the Stella McCartney vegan heels, but hopefully just as cool.

well maybe if she were a better actress people would care about her not the clothes....sorry I'm feeling snarky today but seriously think before you speak to the press.

Woohoo! Another self-righteous actress reminding us how horribly materialistic we all are by peddling us her own vegan/organic/cruelty-free/I-am-so-much-better-than-you clothing/shoe/accessories/makeup/fragrance line. Hypocrisy, anyone? -the DCGF

I agree first guest. I like that Natalie is representative of a smart, more refined female celebrity, but much of what she is is OVERRATED and the result of what the media tell us to think about her. Her acting skills are no better than say, Jessica Alba, but she chooses her roles more wisely (and doesn't flaunt herself in a bikini endlessly). ANd she's lovely looking, I don't pretend to be prettier, but a bit overrated in that department as well. She pretends to be a bit more "above it all" than she really is, but I guess we can't fault her too much for being human.

I think Natalie is an amazing actress; she's definitely on the short list of the one's who can act IMO. And yeah, you can argue that she may just choose smart projects, but isn't that the point? It's worked for her this long. Plus, she's just so unbelievably pretty! I'm happy she chose to design for Te Casan, their shoes are gorgeous.

Dude, lay off Natalie. There aren't a lot of good vegan clothing lines out there and she's just using her celebrity clout to make them available. I doubt she's trying to make everyone vegan here or to point out she's better or whatever. If I had her cash I would do the same thing.

She's a great actress and it's so refreshing to see an actress do something positive. Animal cruelty needs to stop and it's awesome that there are vegan alternatives for most things now. Will I buy her shoes? Probably not. I'm just glad there are animal-friendly "pricy" alternatives for the fashionistas.. I cant believe people are picking on her for doing this, while somewhere out there, there's Paris Hilton.
