Explain: Sexy Santas

Dec 07, 2007 @ 2:23pm

Dita von Teese as Santa.jpgWalking around Union Square yesterday, we noticed something that scares us even more than trying to find a Christmas present for our dad (why is that always so difficult?):

A plague of “Sexy Santa” windows.

Much like Top Model, the formula for these windows is always the same:

Robust male mannequins in luxe cashmere sweaters are posed in the middle, surrounded by (sorry) a gaggle of Santa sluts – female mannequins decked in garish red bikinis, trimmed with white fluff.

We know you can buy this kind of stuff online (what can’t you buy online?). But we didn’t know it's the hottest holiday window display theme south of Rockefeller Center.

And really, does a Sexy Santa make you want to buy more stuff?

We're saying no. Reindeer and cookies, s'il vous plait.

Sluts sell everything.
Even Christmas.
Guh, I hate the world.

I can't say I like the "sexy santa" windows (haven't even seen them) but I do have a soft spot for the barely there holiday looks seen on Victoria's Secret annual runway. I think its the slut in me trying to come out...or maybe its just the perfect-hot-girl models.

I don't really get puffy underwear in general because I feel like half the fun of sexy undergarments is that you wear them underneath your normal clothes, so it's like, on the outside, I'm your average project coordinator, but inside, I'm super sexy, like a superhero in her everyday disguise. But how do you keep a sexy santa bra a secret?

The concept of "Sexy Santa" has always creeped me out. I don't know if people actually find the idea attractive, but retailers take any excuse to display bared flesh (whether real or not---viz., the mannequins). Apparently, it works.

Speaking about Rockefeller Center, you made me think of something. Maybe those who like to wear those "Sexy Santa" outfits are expressing their inner fantasies of being a Rockette in the Radio City Christmas Spectacular?

Yeah..Christmas isn't sexy. Does everything HAVE to be sexy nowadays? Bad news.

Dad's gift suggestion: Get him a subscription to the magazine that most seems to match his interests. There's a ton to pick from!
