The Sartorialist Gets An Art Show

Dec 10, 2007 @ 8:22am

Sartorialist Girl Those wishing to see The Sartorialist's photographs in person should call The Danziger Gallery in New York.

Next month, they'll host the first exhibit of Scott Schuman's photographs, with prints selling for $1200 each.

Whether the images will be more illuminating than the blog is a matter of personal preference, but it's worth noting The Costume Institute's winter exhibit is also about the interactions between websites and style - their new program, Blog.Mode allows visitors to write their reactions to various Costume Institute outfits on a special Met blog.

Maybe it's too much to ask, but we hope The Sartorialist will bring his camera to both art openings, documenting what people think they should wear when their own opinions and manifestations of style are on the line.

Also: we're dying to go to the Sartorialist's big art opening, because we know everyone will really dress up.

As much as I love satorialist, $1200 each is a bit out of my reach. I mean, the pictures will still be in the archives right?

I often find myself admiring his keen eye for womenswear, but bored to the point of clawing my eyes out when I see his menswear (save the Italians). A gallery, though, of his shots seems like an elitist move. I always considered his blog and magazine spots as fundamental to his ongoing project of capturing good style and making it accessible to everyone--JAX

Thank you for noting the show. To be correct the name of my gallery is Danziger Projects. We are located at 521 West 26th Street. The opening will be on January 22nd. All are welcome!

My interest in The Sartorialist's work is in the context of fashion photography and the fine art quality of his photographs. So in response to the coment above - we priced the work at $1,200 because we will be selling limited edition, beautiful archival prints. In today's photo market this is an extemely low price. We do not mean to affect any one's enjoyment of The Sartorialist's website which will continue as before. However, now people will have the opportunity (if they want) to buy a print by a photographer who I believe will continue to be seen as a pioneering and highly important and fresh voice in the worlds of photography, fashion, and the web.

Do you ever see him walking around the streets? And do people recognize him or is he still only know by his photos and not his face.

Many of the people he photographs already recognize him because a large number are actually involved in the fashion industry. He's had several profiles in publications and tv shows those people watch.

As for his more "normal" subjects, who knows?
