Tie Me Down

zip tie ring.jpgZip ties – those thin plastic strips widely used in the place of handcuffs these days – don’t exactly strike us as something to think about.

But it turns out that if you have the mind of a talented jewelry designer, like Natalie Gomensoro, you can refashion them as a very cute ring.

It’s simple enough to wear on a daily basis, and on first glance looks like a traditional ring with a solitary gemstone. It’s subtly subversive yet remarkably elegant, and we’re pretty sure this counts as recycling – we’re in love.

You can get them cast in sterling silver or gold, and all the rings are custom-made by the designer for her line, Metalnat.

this is a blatant rip off of tsubi/ksubi rings which have been out for over a year and a half! go to mulberry street right now and you can see them in the window of the store. they even make wrist bands. this girl is just cashing in on somebody's idea not her own.

Do you have a picture of the ring? I haven't seen it so I can't judge.

I'm not a big fan of this ring, but that website is awesome! One day I'd like Alison to just post all her bookmarked sites!

I used to make my own rings out of actual zip ties

i saw rings like this in the miro gallery in barcelona in june 2006. they were from a local artist, or someone at least with a very spanish name. this woman is definitely not the first to come up with the idea, and her implementation is inferior to the ones i saw (which i didn't have enough money to buy at the time, and could never find on the internet).
