Would You Wear

Would You Wear A Leotard?

Kate Moss Fendi Fur.jpgWe’ve been wearing strapless American Apparel leotards under summer skirts for years. They’ve kind of been our little secret, like pulling a tube dress out of a magic closet.

And when we saw them in H&M last week, we knew our smooth move was officially a full-on trend.

But we’re not seeing them paired with tasteful pieces, like high-wasted skirts or paper-bag shorts. We’re seeing them with huge fur coats, spangled capelets and, most importantly, without any pants.

Some people think wearing a leotard a la Sienna is cute in a leggy kind of way. And even though you seem on display, they ensure that everything stays in its place.

We still think an uncovered leotard makes it look like you’re about to bust a move to Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite at any second. But maybe we’re just not playful enough?

Would you wear a leotard? Or is this a look better left to pre-teen dance recitals?

donna karan built an empire out of a black leotard, so they can't be all bad...i think if you can pull it off, go for it....obviously, as a man, it's not something i'd do myself (though I did wear a wrestling singlet for halloween), but if one of my girlfriends had the balls (or...ovaries) to try it, i'd be right there beside her, cheering her on as we got drunk...because lord knows if you're wearing a leotard with no pants, it's going to be a party

abso-fucking-lutley NOT. I may be young and hip, and fashion may be fun, but this is less "fashion" than "tap-class hooker". Ugh. Pants were invented for a reason, and that reason was to avoid having your crotch shown to the rest of the world.

Not for my body type, but if someone had the ideal body for it...I don't see why not. I've seen people wearing stranger outfits around Manhattan.

I would not. I mean, I quit ballet 14 years ago... no need to revisit. Also, I would love to see someone wear a leotard (not under something) and look good. I'm convinced its impossible to do it without looking slightly silly.

I'll wear all manner of strange or heinous clothing for fun, or just because I feel like it sometimes. But a leotard without pants? Not even on a dare.

Remember when Cory Kennedy wore that green stripe one to Coachella a few years back? with doc martens? Now THAT was super cute.

If you've got great style AND skinny legs, then why not.

As for me, hell no.

Last Halloween, I wore tights as the bottom to my costume even though I only had a tiny top over it. Given that I only had a few minutes to whip it together, I was complimented by many for the ingenuity.

Hell no. I don't think there is a less flattering garment out there (without pants, that is... I like your under-the-skirt idea). I remember a Madonna video a few years ago in which she wore a leotard, and it made her hips look really... um...mature. I can't think of another way to describe it. But if Madonna can't rock it successfully, I don't think I can even think about trying it.

I wear the black AA ones under skirts a lot (underwear lines give me the heebie-jeebies), but there is no way in hell I'd walk out the door with no bottoms. Bathing suit season is scary enough, and at least then there are towels for when you get out of the pool.

It's obviously hot on Kate. But I hated it on Sienna. I can imagine that Cory could rock it... I think it depends on the occasion and your personality. I am known for off-the-wall outfits, and would totally wear what Kate wore to the Zepplin concert, if I had the legs for it.

Also, how is it different than a bathing suit? Living in Southern CA, people run around in barely covered suits all the time looking super hot. I think this look is doable, it's all in the attitude.

I think dancewear should stay that way. As the leggings trend came into full swing, too many people with too much flab wore too-thin leggings as pants to GROSS effect. Let's not give fashion victims a reason to expose even more on the street.

Can I just say -- how much fun would it be to be Kate Moss? I would love to just get up some mornings and think of the most RANDOM thing in the world to wear, and then watch the hordes follow. I think this one should probably be left to the pros. ie. Kate. But I rather fear we'll be seeing it a lot soon...

Sienna didn't wear a leotard, she wore black granny panties. Which is 10000x worse.

The only time I've ever considered buying a black leotard is during my obsessive Edie Sedgwick phase. Now SHE made them look good, doing the fur coat and boots combo long before Kate was born!

ive been wanting to buy a leotard from AA for a while but that store is pretty expensive so i havent gotten around to it yet. however, i was planning to wear pants or a skirt of some sort under mine. im not really a fan of the no pants look, even on someone with great legs cuz i think it looks odd.

I don't even leotard without pants to a dance class. But I don't have skinny legs. God knows what kind of fashion decisions would I do if I had.

As an experiment I wore my Madonna for H&M leotard with tights to a friend's party. Well i wore pants to the party and took them off like a coat upon arrival. I got more compliments, odd-looks, and ass grabs that night ( girls, guys, and gays alike) I was "the girl in the leotard" and everyone wanted to talk to me. Of course im fairly small and can pull off the shortest of skirts without looking slutty (I shutter to think of how this would look on someone even one size larger) But i still havnt mustered up the courage to try this out in a REAL public place. Also its too cold in Boston right now.

Ahh yes, Sienna's were granny panties. I'm just over her, and I can totally understand why Kate wanted to give her a beat down a few months ago.

I still love the no pants look- Mary Kate in her flannel shirt with tights? Call me crazy , but i still think it was the hotness.

I actually saw a" black leotard over black tights with just boots and a shirt" outfit today - on a scrawny , hostile, and obviously rather demented young woman who was working the broadway and 11th salvation army rack like a WW2 hooker. She looked INSANE, and not in a good way. And no, I don't think she was just in a shopping frenzy... yikes.

I will wear a leotard with a skirt. I will wear a leotard with pants. I will wear a leotard with shorts.

But alone? Hell to the NO! :/ I don't care who's "rocking" it, it's not appealing.
