Would You Wear Cat Eyes?

Cat Eyes Freja The LA Times has a step-by-step guide to getting cat-eyes today.

The demonstration on using liquid eyeliner to wing-tip your lashes is brilliant… if you’re still into the trend.

The problem is, the look is everywhere, and sometimes it looks perfect - on Lily Allen and Amy Winehouse, on the Versace runway, on the Lower East Side, on the original cast recording of Sweet Charity.

The problem comes when the look suddenly smears everywhere, like runny eyeliner that’s six month’s old. It’s worn with preppy cardigans and pretty poufy pink frocks, and just like bubble skirts or skinny jeans, if girls play into the look because it’s trendy and not because it’s an extension of their style, it may look a little forced.

Of course, now that Hannah Montana has a best-selling record, the blur between what’s popular and what’s actually rock ‘n roll has yawned substantailly - maybe eyeliner is the least of anyone’s identity issues.

I always wore eyeliner, just because it compliments my eyes better than any eyeshadow, and it suits my personal style i guess...i never though of it as something trendy, just another option...

Hey, tip from a makeup artist here b/c that article you linked to was well meaning but missed the best tip of all. Mark with a little dotwhere you want your flare to end lightly with a nude lip pencil. Pull the outer corner of your eye out and slightly down. Draw line straight across to meet with dot... or if it's easier draw from the dot in.
Let go.
Voila, perfect little flip without looking ridiculous, because only models and Amy can pull off La Winehouse.

i've been wearing cat eyes for the past 5 years - it just looks more flattering on me than any other makeup. i kinda resent that all of a sudden everyone's doing it, because i don't ever want it to be "out"!

i started wearing eyeliner in 7th or 8th grade and i do cat eyes every once in a while because i like the look and i think it suits me. i think its kind of annoying that its becomming a trend now though, because soon something ive been doing for years will be 'out' and everyone who did it before (like me) will look like their behind. i dont think that would stop me..its just annoying

i always wear black eyeliner, sometimes i do a mini-wing, sometimes i go wingless, and if im going out i'll go a bigger wing.

i've never gone wings like miss winehouse though... i think i'd have a bit of a crash landing.

Hi. My name is Sig, and I'm a guy. This is funny because the only reason I'm here is I was wondering what the he11 those crazy flips on the sides of Amy Winehouse's eyes are called. (I have an "adopted mom" who always does that.) Thanks for helping me solve one of the universe's great mysteries!
