Would You Wear False Eyelashes?

Dec 07, 2007 @ 3:21pm

edie_sedgwick.jpgWe never realized how cool false eyelashes could look until Fashion Week, when girls became sex bombs with a little bit of glue.

Now that the Sweet Charity vibe has transcended fad and become the way some girls want to look all the time, it's getting even more tempting to visit Shu Uemura and see what they can do in their famed lash bar.

But then there's the downside:

If false eyelashes aren't applied perfectly, they can sadly look like this.

And there's also a part of us that feels like they're a little bit gross, just another enhancement along with lip plumpers and body-shaping tights that we don't really love, or necessarily want to endorse, even if they look amazingly lush, sometimes.

Would you wear them?

I used to be a competitive ice dancer (don't judge), and would always wear false eyelashes for competitions and shows. When applied correctly they can look amazing. Unfortunately if you do not use the correct glue or do not put them on straight you look absurd. That poor girl, one would think that a broadway star would have a stylist or even just a friend tell her not to go out looking like that.

Yes, when the time calls for it. The trick is to trim the lashes so they enhance, but don’t necessarily draw great attention as to people inquiring why your eyes look so different.

OMG, that girl on GFY must be mortified!
I wore false eyelashes to my senior prom (back in 97) and my lashes look amazing in all the pics. They probably didn't look so natural up close. Of course, we stayed up til 6 am, and I fell asleep with them on, only to wake up with my lashes stuck together to the point that I couldn't open my eyes!!
I'd never consider wearing them now. My Chanel Intimitable mascara will suffice.

If I'm already wearing something slightly costume-y (a floor-length 70's neon print dress or beaded flapper dress, for example), I don't think my look is complete without them. However, they do look a bit over-the-top for everyday.

(And, yeah, if you use the glue that comes with them, you end up looking like Miss Bundy. The expensive glue works so much better.)

Semi permanant and "permanent" lashes applied by an expert last for weeks, look amazing yet natural, and you don't have to wear mascara with them.

Shu Uemura is so amazing, especially their artsy false eyelashes. http://www.shuuemura-usa.com/images/category/ToolsAcc.Subcat.FalseEyelashes.gif

Like all beauty enhancers, it has to applied correctly. If not it ends up making the wearer looking horrid.

I am all about the little lashettes to fill in and enhance. And yes, if you are going for the full set - trim, trim, trim! You don't even have to use the whole band, just the ends would work too.

I have to wear them everytime I perform and that is quite enough. I hate the glue. And after an hour or so they start to really irritate you.

hmm.. falsies. i don't think so. i mean, my lashes are tiny but for a big day you'd think i'd have enough to worry about. i'd only wear them if they were professionally done because checking my eyes every 10 minutes to see if i look like i have a lazy eye is tedious.

oh, and i would definitely wear those shu uemara lashes. but only if i was wearing something just as glamorous as they are.

As long as you (or a professional) can put them on right, they can be one of the best accessories to a party or big night out on the town. I paid $10 to have them applied for a wedding as a bridesmaid and i went from feeling semi-cute to a sexy bombshell (in my mind anyway). they are meant to enhance and not to be taken too seriously and my heart goes out to that girl in the photo, i only hope someone took her aside and let her know...

Individual lashes look pretty natural, I have never tried a full strip, but I am planning on doing it for new years eve. I did the individual lashes for my bday last year, when a bunch of girl friends and I went to the club. I want to buy a full strip by MAC, the one the makeup artist was talking about in the alpha kitty segment, with the clear filament. It sounds awesome.

The most time I'm willing to spend on eye-related beauty is fifteen minutes once a month to tint my eyelashes. So, no.

I love the look of PROPERLY applied false eyelashes.
One of my friends from school put them on herself...and once she took them off she had no eyelashes left.

Unlike Edie, I don't have three hours to do my eye makeup!

The somewhat natural-ish looking ones are great!

But I can't imagine what my man would say if I came home looking like something out of the feather aisle at the craft store exploded on my face...

Oh and I doubt they make hypoallergenic glue!

I love false eyelashes. Naturally my eyelashes are thick but dead straight, so even with a curler and mascara, it takes a lot of effort to keep them nicely curled. I use MAC #17 eyelashes every time I go out somewhere nice with friends, they make my lashes appear even fuller and definitely stay nice and curled in the most natural looking way. Practice definitely makes perfect with false lashes, and patience is definitely key. Now it only takes me about 5 minutes to set my lashes nicely in place. A good (if not obvious) tip is to line the lash line with back eyeliner before applying the lash, to ensure a continuous look. And also, do not hesitate to trim the sides of a full set of lashes if they overhang the length of your eyelid.

they look quite cute on her (not sure who "nikki" is but she's adorable!) but i can only imagine blinding myself if I ever attempted false eyelashing...

I love them, 3s at MAC seem to be perfect for that natural but sexy look.

I adore fake eyelashes, they're fabulous and just a little bit ridiculous in the right way.

But sadly, I can't apply them to save my life.

i love them! ive recently started to wear shu uemura lashes, big spotted feather ones, they look ott but great! dont wear huge ones in the wind though, you feel like you might take flight! im for sure feeling a new obsession coming on, i like the ones that are more extravagant rather than subtle ones, more fun that way!

oh please Faran. With eyelashes as long as yours, you don't need fake ones.

i love false eyelashes. i can always tell the difference in pictures. they do something that no mascara can do. and after a few turns of practice, anyone can get the hang of it.
