10 Questions for Project Runway

9. Dear Ricky, can we offer you a Zoloft instead of a Kleenex? Stop crying!

7. Raise your hand if you’re surprised that Kit was popular, rich, and dressed like Britney Spears in high school? Yeah, us either.

6. Did Sweet Pea ride a motorcycle to prom? And do it in the back of a pickup truck in the high school parking lot? Is that question rhetorical?

Personally, Christian and Jillian are my faves -- and Christian's attitude/commentaries (delivered with his trademark air of exasperation) are reason enough to watch the show. Last night's episode was good, but I wasn't blown away by the dresses. (Did like Victorya's, though.)

love the comment about high school girls loving updos. i was the only girl at both my proms to not wear an updo (i wore it half up one year, and blown out the next). and they all looked at me like i was weird, but i just thought all their gelled & curled updos were so awful! it feels good to know i was right, even way back then (haha, it was only 1999 & 2000)

hahahahaha

my roommate and I were just discussing last night how awful updos are and how out of place they'd look at any event other than prom.

I've never understood why teens associate updo's and a swoop bang with being fancy... to me a great blow-out is instantly hotter and chic

What is with the updo thing? It's all over prom, and it just gets worse when you go to wedding boards. So many brides are like, "You have to wear an updo. It's classy."
(I have an abiding hatred for the word "classy" in all forms, except the bitchy one.)

So what did everyone here wear to prom?

To my senior prom (2002) I wore a floor length Sue Wong dress. It was a dark purple/grayish color with really beautiful beading. It was very mature compared to the cotton candy and bubblegum poofy dresses that my friends were all wearing. It was a column dress and had a V neck in the front and a deeper V in the back. I really stood out in the pictures because everyone else wore strapless bright colored dresses with princess skirts.

I also refused to get an updo. I had my hair done but I insisted half up and no curls.

I wore a slinky yellow Chinese Laundry dress with an uneven hem and gold mini-sequins. And an updo- whatever, it was New Jersey.

i think it might be the area i come from (palo alto, ca) but only a few girls wore updos (definitely the trashiest) and nobody wore bright or poofy dresses. i wore all black, both years, simple blow out.

Updos were a don't in Miami where I went to high school. To the 3 proms I went to, in '91, '92, and '93, I wore my hair all down. I did, however have the spiky bang thing in '91.

Why all the animosity about updos?? It's true I wouldn't be caught dead in one at the ripe ol' age of 23 but when I was 16 I rocked an updo with my Jessica McClintock strapless princess dress... when else in my life will I be able to go out in public looking like a disney character??? Let these girls be 17... we have the rest of our lives to be tasteful and trendy!

(ps I wised-up by senior prom and wore a one-shouldered shorter dress with a blowout)

so bummed that Kevin got elminiated when Ricky should have definitely been the one to get the boot. Aside from Kevin's dress looking very forever21 this week, he has been great every other challenge. Ricky has yet to wow me. I could have sworn it was going to be Christian, Jillian, and Kevin in the top 3....

I still can't believe all those comments about Rami's dress being perfect for the over-30 "ladies who lunch." To me, it looked horribly Forever 21, especially all those gathers on the backside that made the poor girl's booty look droopy. I love Rami, but I have to say, this look was more seventeen than sophisticate.

LauraMilli, I completely agree with you. I thought that Rami's dress looked terribly cheap, the judges must have been looking at a different dress than us.

Oh, prom. I wore Betsey Johnson to both proms I attended (the latest being not even a year ago). I never wore an updo or fake, acrylic nails. Shudder...I detest both of those prom staples.

I commend all them for doing this challenge. I would HATE to work with high school girls, nevertheless prom dress are horrible, horrible things to have to design anyway. Gross. I wore a long pink two piece dress to my senior prom. I look back and ask myself what I was thinking..

I LOVE Christian and Jillian. I want a friend like Christian to go everywhere with me so we could talk shit. How fun!

i'm surprised that kevin got the boot last night. i thought he'd make it to at least the final five.
as for my prom attire- i wore black both years. one year a short, flirty black dress. and the next a long romantic gown. i had shorter hair, so i didn't do an updo (and i wouldn't have done an updo if my hair had been long), i fixed it myself nearly just like i did every other day!

I was laughing because they kept being like "OMG 17 YEAR OLDS. TEENAGERS. UGH."....um, yeah, I know you're on a reality show and everything but if you were working with real models...they'd be 17.

I think the updo is a remnant from the days of young girls putting up their hair as a sign of maturity. It's their 1st outing as a grown up in many ways.

updos, so tragic...[beat]
let the girls be young. it's prom not some gala. and although getting dressed is half (if not more) the fun, its still so miniscule in the grand scheme of things. lets not be a snob for once.

Fun! My senior prom was in 2005. I wore this Jovani dress that I loved - it was a really simple peach silk and lace slip dress with a matching silk corset. It is, to date, the most expensive item of clothing I've ever bought. I'd probably wear it again. And no updo for me - half up, half down, with really loose curls.

OK, updos. I see people's point about them being tacky, because they can be.
But I like wearing my hair up for dances because otherwise I get too hot. I love dancing, and once you add makeup and a fancy dress to that, one really can't afford to be all sweaty.
Whenever I wear my hair down to dances, I ended up putting it up anyway, so I figured it might as well start that way so I could make sure it looks decent.

When I went to prom jr. year I parted my hair on the side and wore it in a low bun and I thought it looked great. I'm not sure if y'all are including that look in your definition of updo.
For my senior prom,I barely even did my hair because I was running so late. It was a joke. But I straightened it a little and wore it down. I'm pretty sure it was up by the end of the night, but whatever.

the most horrid thing about the episode was the way some of the girls walked modeling their dresses.

FWD: yes!! I hate it when people use the word "classy" to describe something. It's always a red flag to me that something is going to be oh-so pedestrian and borderline tacky....

And I felt so bad for Christian... that girl's taste levels were AWFUL. And I especially loved Nina's face when she told her she wanted even MORE lace than Christian put on!!!! I have a feeling that was the only thing that saved Christian from being eliminated....

As a high schooler living in north Texas, I have to say that I hate, hate HATE, updos. And most prom dresses. Everyone looks so tacky and cheap.

Christian's girl was so annoying!

And like 90% of the comments, I also hate updos. At my prom everyone wore it up and curled. With massive amounts of hairspray. And glitter. ew.

I wore my hair up to my junior prom last year, but it was certainly not an "updo." I just clipped it back, it was very soft and loose. I used no hairspray, no bobby pins, no gel or glitter. I plan on doing the same thing this year for senior prom...

but I do detest those glittery gel things. Ugh.

I didn't start out with my hair up for the formal highschool dances that I went to, but it always ended up in a messy ponytail on top of my head by the end of the night any.

there are updos and there are "updos", the curly shellacked stuff is tacky, but a simple french roll or a chicgnon are totally fine.

For my senior prom this year I hope to invest in a very beautiful dress that I can wear again and again - I see it more as an excuse to splurge on something gorgeous and less about the prom part... if that makes sense...
