Adventures in Copyright: Love Bracelets

Jan 11, 2008 @ 10:33am

Love Bracelets.jpgWhen we spot a Cartier LOVE bracelet, we usually think of Elizabeth Taylor and the great pile of them she must have accumulated.

We're totally forget that their design was inspired by the chastity belts warriors locked onto their wives in Medieval England.

It's almost unsettling that the bracelet's design of screws, meant permanently lock on the wrist of a lover, has come to represent such a strong symbol of love.

So in this strange case of Adventures in Copyright, we're going to go ahead and say that Forever 21 makes a little bit more sense.

Their Polished Love Bangle is the same size and width of Cartier's, but they've foregone screws in favor of simply engraving the word "LOVE" around it.

And for $5.80, literally .03% of the price of Cartier's, you can rock an armful of love bangles with your new Marc by Marc spring dress.

Now that's love.

...so does putting Corona bottles on a Hawaiian shirt also count (http://fannypackantics.com/2008/01/11/fanny-pack-of-the-week-3/) as copyright infringement? I'm not sure if this Love bracelet really qualifies...

my mom got me a cartier love bracelet for xmas. it was so gorgeous! however, we agreed to return it and get something else because, after half an hour, we still could not get it on (and i'm not a 'keep something on for weeks' kind of girl. beautiful, but a terrible idea on cartier's part.

i don't understand how fashionista can be so hypocritical all of the time.

you guys go between bashing fakes and knockoffs to supporting them. complaining about f21's cheapness to endorsing them?

what is the deal?

all that aside the f21 bracelet is cheap, not cute and in no way close to that of the cartier. i would be embarrassed to post the two next to each other.

and by supporting Forever 21 you might as well make a donation to your local Pro-Life establishment.

These bangles have a lock on your rights so might as well be wearing the chastity belt because if the condom breaks, you might not be left with any alternatives.

ps. hope that bangle doesn't turn your wrist green.

No one else has seen the Tom Binn's anarchy versions? Much better than both.

Two Things:
1. I dream of a Cartier Love bracelet the way other girls dream of their engagement ring.
2. What did "guest" mean by shopping at forever 21 is supporting pro life?
