Today, WWD confirms the rumors that Patrick Dempsey is the new face of Versace Menswear, but here's the thing:
He may be called "McDreamy" on television, but we can't look at Mr. Dempsey without smiling.
Sure, he could be sexy, but the actor's appeal rests in a fundamental downbeat of humor that he brings to every role: We liked him in Can't Buy Me Love because he was softly silly; we like him in Grey's Anatomy because he has little sailboats on his surgery cap.
He looks really cute in his Versace suit, but he's not being sexy or slick, as Versace usually goes, and he's not even being urbane and aloof.
He's sort of, actually, making us smile and giggle.
The question is, did Donatella want it that way?

It kinda seems that way. The S/S 08 collections were very light and airy. Which I think is a plus. The last few seasons have been kind of heavy and serious. It was kind of coming to the point where when you think Versace, you automatically thought 'overbearing'.
Unrelated: P.Dempsey looks really good in that suit. I'd buy it.
