i just wore my checked vans today and that comment you made about emo boys, skaters, and 8th graders is very rude and obnoxious. i always get compliments on my checked vans. it's not what they are or who makes them, but rather how you wear them.

I wear my vans all the time. And no I'm not a skater, emo boy, or 8th grader. I just live in a city that requires a lot of walking and can't wear heels everyday.

I wear 80%20 slip on (vans style) shoes and chuck taylors all the time (to walk my dog) and get lots of compliments. I am 27 and not a skater or a boy.

I'm sure skaters would take offense to this as well. They don't wear slip ons. They rip way to easily to be skate shoes... and aren't really worn in general by skaters even in down time.

what an unfortunate post!
you are being so cliché and stereotypical. I thought you knew better than that, such a shame.

Chic girls can wear Vans! It's how you wear them, and how you feel!

I thought it was funny and true, and may I point out that almost all of you mentioned that you wear VANS as opposed to Sketchers or some other knock off. So, although the list may have excluded "fashionistas," who also care about authenticity, the point is legit, Vans need not worry that Sketchers has made their own version because the bulk of their base (which probably is skaters, emo kids and 8th graders) is loyal to the brand.

i am 23 and wearing my checker vans right now as i do most days that its not either 95 or 35 outside. or when i dont have to look like i care...wich is most days. they have a huge rip in the side and the white parts are stained beyond recognition. my boyfriend has been yelling at me for a year to get a new pair. i will not until the sole falls off.
when i do finally get a new pair they will CERTAINLY not be made by SKETCHERS. they are pretty much the perfect shoe and i am appalled that anyone would think they could get away with making anything similar.
everyone, no matter who you are, what you do, or your age, should own at LEAST one pair of vans. and no matter what colors you choose, i suggest drawing on them. LOVE LOVE LOVE.

wow very ignorant of you actually. my boyfriend is a pro skater and he never rides in slip-ons and very few of his fellow skaters wear them even off board.
u should consider the fact that vans are actually SKATE SHOES made for people who skate and they are not made to fit regular people. if they like them though i dont see the problem, its better than sporting the same haircut for XXX years. UGH.

I love my Vans and sketchers shoes look like 5 year old shoes and only teenyboppers who like Britney Spears & Ashlee Simpson would like em.

Vans the original shoe and they last much longer than Converse or Sketchers too.

What does "not made to fit regular people" mean? As far as I knew, skaters were regular people with a specific interest. Are their feet shaped differently?
Also, if no skaters wear Vans (on or off board), why/how are they skate shoes?

HAHA oh dear, we're just addressing all my big fashion issues today aren't we. The stereotype is soooo true. Black & pink checkered vans are the product of my 2005 myspace scene (emo/hxc/ska) phase of freshmen year. I never wear them anymore, except when I'm extremely lazy usually sick and running out to the drug store to pick up medicine. Each time I put them on my mother just groans, they are the bane of her existence. Last year when cute girlie b&w checkered ballet slipper type Vans came out and for some reason I had to have them, I don't think I've worn since the week I bought them.
