Whoa! That is really hideous. I take it that it will not become part of the new uniform at Fashionista HQ.

guest 2:03pm: i don't think the big deal is the word, it's the fact that it's the same typeface used in their logo, i would venture out to say that it's probably spaced just the same as the logo, but i don't really know.

did you notice the fonts however, they are the exact same fonts that fashionista uses! Did you also notice that it is all in the lower case!

@ guest 2:03PM...no, they didn't invent the term, but the font on the shirt is the tell-tale fashionista.com font! F21 isn't even trying to be sneaky on this one...

they didnt invent the term obviously but, clearly forever 21 used the same font as is used in the header. hmm, wonder where f21 got their inspiration.

Oh calm down people.. they know they didn't invent the word. it's obviously their logo typeface. Plus it also has the exact logo of the New York Times and lots of newsprint and random word-age. It's clearly some sort of ugly-ass homage(ish) to New York fashion media.

Maybe a tip of the hat (or the middle finger) to two places that have called them out on their blatant copying.

(not that I don't shop their myself...)

i'd be upset too. that's like if someone took a copy of your signature and put it on something tacky for the public to buy. it's your name, and it's the way that you write your name!

that shirt is really hideous. it looks like someone ate something from pearl paint, a newstand and shopbop, and then vomited on a t-shirt.

The girls and boys who make this website have every right to get pissed off with F21 for such a blatant rip off of their logo. F21 wouldn't dare to do the same thing with a big company like, say coca cola.
Plus now they may be associated with that horrendous looking shirt!

dear "fashionista,"

as a loyal reader of this blog, i come to you to hear about the latest fashion news and what i assume are your "enlightened" opinions. however, this post has completely changed my mind (even though i have disagreed with certain posts in the past, this particular post has jeopardized this website's verisimilitude.) You did not invent the term "fashionista" nor did you create the font that the shirt uses. we all know of forever 21's copyright infringement grievances, but for you to claim responsibility for their design is frankly appalling. your ego has gotten much too large and is extremely unattractive. i suggest you check your ego before all your readers have the same epiphany that i have had.

love,
"loyal" reader.

get over yourselves! the word fashionista is a very common word and and old english is a common typeface.

It's really close, but I'm sorry...

that is not the same typeface as yours. There are literally a gazillion blackletter fraktur-styles typefaces and these two are only similar in that they are condensed. The serifs are different, the "stems" are cut open on theirs, the dots on the "i"...

That's not to say they weren't inspired by your logo... simply that the tee shirt graphic does not contain your logo.

One last pet-peeve from the token graphic designer, a "font" is an electronic file you install on your computer. Your logo is comprised of a specific "typeface".

It was a total knock-off. that's what a knock-off is. A knock-off isn't when it's exactly the same thing.

Fashionista.com is so popular. And it's far from a coincidence that they would've used that type of font to spell out "fashionista".

Not a coincidence. And they probably just couldn't find that EXACT same font. They probably woulda.

wow--this response seems a little harsh. I will reiterate: Is it so strange for them to think it could be "inspired by" their logo when the exact logo of the new york times is underneath it?

If there were no logos at all and it was just a the ugly girl graphic and it said fashionista maybe the case isn't as strong.

Why would the Forever 21 company even care about this site enough to long on to your website? Do you really think they need to go here for inspiration? Forever 21 is more successful then this site could ever dream of being... Get over yourself.

I think the fashion21 FASHIONSTA shirt looks tacky and cheap for crying out loud. Also, I must say that it is really F21's intention to annoy FASHIONISTA.com since they're always being featured here for their KNOCK-OFFs... I think this is the start of a big battle...I'M for FASHIONISTA.COM of course!
