Saleisha Is Really Pretty; Isn't Walking Fashion Week

Jan 02, 2008 @ 9:48am

saleisha.jpg We hear from a source that although Saleisha has indeed signed her Elite contract and strolled through their New York office, she won't be hitting the New York Fashion Week circuit - in fact, the agency won't even be sending her on runway castings.

Also, although Elite models are routinely signed for three-year contracts, the binding papers for the Top Model winner may be a shorter one-year agreement.

So what will Saleisha be doing instead of fashion shows and castings?

"Press appointments and Cover Girl filming takes up the bulk of her first few months," says the source, "And then it's more likely she'll go out for sportswear campaigns, like Jaslene Gonzales did last year."

Meanwhile, Elite has another relative newbie who actually could be America's next top model - their fifteen-year-old foundling, Karlie Kloss, is on the cover of Teen Vogue this month with Chanel Iman and Ali Michael.

Just another "reality tv star". No real fashion modeling career for any of them. Used to work at a fashion house and a certain former winner was begging to walk runway shows, but PR companies refuse. Real fashion houses call them "b-list". And I think that's being nice. Whoever goes on that show is clueless.....

Karlie Kloss is just a child. It is really really sad and scary that she is being ripped out of childhood and thrust into the harsh world of modeling, fashion and into the public eye.

It’s so unfortunate that these ladies are ridiculed for being ANTM winners. Most of those girls worked very hard to win the title and have shown themselves worthy of the successes that come with it. Now I’m not in the fashion industry, but I am in public relations, have produced a few fashion shows, modeled a little while in college (which in no way compares to a top model!), worked for a top fashion college, and am now venturing into fashion pr, which means I know a little about the industry. Yes, my first impression of Saleisha was “she’s too commercial.” But mid-way through the show, she proved to embody the qualities of both a runway and commercial model. So would someone please explain why all the hatred? Especially to go as far as to call the winners clueless; now that’s just wrong!

The show was rigged. Saleisha won because of her connection with Tyra.
She's a sweet girl but not a true model.
I hate to say this but she's too fat for the runway.
Those thunder thighs and the lack of a neck doesn't help the poor girl either.
The girl should stick to L.A and catologs.
At least she got away with $100,000.00 -Not to shabby.

It seems like most of the winners of ANTM never go far at all. They just do more commercial fashion.

Saleisha did do at least one show during NY's Fashion Week F/W 2008. She walked for Tibi.

Does any former contestant from ANTM fit the model standard?

To me, Heather and Jenah fit the standard.

First, of all I think you cannot and should not stomp on anyone's dream for at least trying. And calling the young women who go on that show clueless is a clueless statement! Who died and made you the end all to be all to Fashion and modeling? You used to work for a fashion house and that's just one and who the hell cares? We all know that the modeling industries view of beauty is jaded and has a favoritism towards Causcasion and European Models. So to me if Tyra Banks wants to throw favoritism towards Saleisha or any other model of color that looks just as good or hell... a whole lot better than why not?! It happens everyday in this industry and many others industries. But as soon as you are pushed out or not counted it is called favoritism...ha! That's so sad. So I say to you and the rest that are hating on this young woman and her grind, you wish you were her...lets not even front! And Ms. Saleisha is far from fat, get your head out the toilet and look in the mirror and realize that it is you who obviously has a problem with weight and body image. She is beautiful, fierce and is a champion! You all need to really get over yourselves!!!

Smoochies ;O)

As much as I loved Heather and Chantal and Jenah, I do have to say Saleisha did do better at the end than the other girls. I think the main issue here is... would Saleisha would have been quite as good if she hadn't already had so much experience modeling? She probably could have made it without ANTM. She already had her foot- no, leg- in the door.

I've noticed that most of the girls who don't win end up getting contracts and working more than the ones who do (Elyse, Mercedes, Molly-Sue, etc). I've seen Mercedes and Yaya in commercials and Yaya. Seldomly do I see the winners of this show anywhere.

Dani Evans has done so good.
she has a lot of campaigns going right now, and she and caridee are the only two to have their covergirl contracts renewed.
Ann, who people say had some of the worst pictures, has a very successful modeling career.
A lot of them are successful.
And I am happy for them.
Though Chantal had a bad disadvantage because she had that long train on her dress, while Saliesha got small mini dresses.
It was rigged.
Jenah, Heather, and Chantal were the obvious best choices.

Thunder Thighs?!

That just shows what a disgusting industry the Fashion World has become.
ANYONE who says Saliesha is too big needs their head checked...
