Fashion Is Fun

Haute Couture and the Cool Kids

Reader Brittany sent us in a great little video that is not only fun to watch, but actually educational.

“The Secret World of Haute Couture” explains, well, the secret (private) world of haute couture - specifically, the ladies who can and do afford it.

It’s the first in a series of six, which you can watch here if you’re boss is out of the office/you’re still on winter break.

We kind of love the American that leads you into the world of the highest kind of fashion in the video above - she was the only one who would come right out and talk to BBC, who put this project together.

Watch and learn…

If the lady from YSL was not the mother of Marie Antoinette from the movie, I don't know who was. She sounded JUST like her.

Anyway, what a fun documentary to watch! And yes, I loved that most of the "insiders" who decided to show their closets were Americans. Go figure.

I could not tear my eyes away from this. I loved every bit of it (perfect thing to do on a snow day). I learned tons and I'm recommending it to all my friends. I caught that Izzy Blow cameo and it made me sad too :(

Amazing! I also loved getting to see the interiors of these ladies' houses.

It is interesting that mostly only Americans were filmed- but another reason for this could be a language/ culture barrier. I would guess that a majority of haute couture clients are from the former USSR or rich Middle Eastern countries like the UAE or Saudi Arabia.

I actually saw this on tv a while ago and wondered if anyone else caught it/noticed it was all Americans showing their closets and discussing prices. Interesting to watch though.
