Also, apparently the Dutch model really can speed skate, which just seems absurd but also strangely sensible:

Actually, if you told us Doutzen held a degree in nuclear physics, we'd probably be like, "Oh yeah..."

On another skating note: Last night, Richie Rich told us, "Don't be sad Heatherette's not having a fashion show. I'm not. Skating is way more fun."

yeah..there's something going on with the dutch and speed skating...i don't really get it, but every time i've seen it on the olympics, they were dominating

Speed skating is the Dutch equivalent of youth soccer leagues in the U.S; everybody does it. Will you also be surprised if you learn that she eats a lot of herring rides a bicycle as her primary mode of transport?

She definitely knows how to speed skate. Her parents met while competing in a speed skating match. The Vogue issue "The Next Top Models" has an interview where she talks about this and also points out healthy skater thighs.

most dutch eat herring and ride bikes. i lived there for a year. also, they are really into football at an early age (or american soccer).

I don't understand the mixed reception Doutzen gets here. She's shown herself to be nothing but unfailingly well-spoken and even sweet in her interviews and video clips.

I am disappointed by her apparent Victoria's Secret deal, but it seems as though she is being actively pushed in that direction (by folks who find her too sanguine and un-waifish for high fashion).
