I did pick up on his fear of hemming the dress when Tim approached him in the workroom. However as a desinger COMPETING in a COMPETITION, he should have, perhaps, chosen a fabric that would be more forgiving should construction issues arise. If one wants to win, one cannot afford for little things like what happened to Kevin to happen. Especially when on the previous three seasons, so many people have bit the dust for the exact same reason. Maybe Kevin doesn't watch Project Runway.

What a cop out. You can hem bias dresses (I know an indie designer who does it and is very successful), you just have to know what you're doing.
Is he admitting that he doesn't?

you know the biggest problem with his dress was not the hem...it was the dress itself. if it had been a beautiful, flattering dress, they would have let the hem slide. the whole thing was just wrong and that's why he was out.
