Tyra's New Reality: Magazines

Jan 30, 2008 @ 8:56am

Tyra Banks.jpgIt looks like Tyra Banks didn't get the memo on what a joke The Fashionista Diaries was.

Reuters reports that the TV-loving once-model has struck a deal with the CW (the same geniuses that brought us Gossip Girl) to host a reality show about breaking into the fashion magazine world.

Each episode will center around weekly challenges, much like Tyra's ANTM, and each challenge win will be recorded in The Book, a mock up of a fake mag that shows Tyra really took The Devil Wears Prada to heart for this.

The grand prize after the entire contest is over and all (some?) of America has watched the contestants practice timed runs to Starbucks and marathon fashion shoots? An Assistant Editor position at an unnamed fashion mag.

We know some poor, clueless kids will line up to be in this show (and yes, we're planning on watching). The more pressing question? Which fashion book will team up with Tyra? Keep in mind that its editors will be the judges, which pretty much vetoes Vogue, Elle and any other magazine that's doing well...

Stay tuned...

Hm, for some reason I think it could be Glamour or Cosmo. They are both trashy enough to do reality TV (on CW, no less) but big enough to get attention.

just stay away from the mags, tyra. you were a model but you are no editor and don't know crap about putting a magazine together. seriously. AH!

Vogue and Elle haha. Anna Wintour wouldn't allow something like that to happen. And as for Elle, the magazine stopped working with Tyra's people on ANTM since the show went teeny bopper with Seventeen.

That's hilarious. I'm going through the interview process for a new editing position, and I swear that I've had to do more for this position than I did to get into college. I was joking with a friend that all these hoops have the hallmark of a reality show. Turns out it's not such a joke anymore... Really though, the things I've had to do make sense for an editor. But they'd make for terrible plot. What is the audience going to do? Read my changes to a folio?

It won't be a show about actually breaking into the magazine industry... it won't even matter what magazine it is.The show will surely be about the emotional journey, about becoming a whole person, a real person with flaws and blah, blah, blah. I'm so sick of Tyra and her goddamn jouneys! I can't stomach another meaningful show of hers. Please make it stop.

I know for a fact Elle has a show like this in the works. Whether it's with Tyra I am not sure.

I'm sorry, but this is f*ing ridiculous. You want to be an AE? Get an internship and then become an EA! I'd add "it's not that hard" but it sort of is.

This is just going to mess this up for the rest of us midwesterners who actually ARE working on that route and have already amazed our fly over state friends with bright-lights-big-city NYC internships, which actually consist of working for free doing Starbucks runs for 40 hours per week (plus part time jobs). Now even more *suddenly inspired* people are going to decide that it's attainable, and that means more people for me to beat in interviews.

Please leave these shitty, but coveted jobs to the people who actually know how to get them.
