Tyra's Girls Can't Do Bryant Park

So I got a call from Jade, the crazy Top Model contestant who was just a terror. It was actually her agent asking if I was interested in booking her for fashion week in February... She called her the "million dollar face."

I'm not doing the booking anyway, and c'mon, it's JADE! [Redacted: too mean for print]. But she insisted on emailing me these pictures and I had to share them with you.

We were thinking about having a go see just for fun if we weren't busy as hell. We're not as mean as she was on the show!

There's nothing remotely fashionable about any of this, but its pretty hilarious. Apparently Matthew Ralston shot them. Enjoy.

Jade/her agent should know that for the last 5 years, the trend for models has been young, younger, youngest. Jade is A) Too old and B) Too 'edgy' to be walking the runways. Designers these days want the smooth, fresh, soft-faced girls. Sorry Jade. Your career is over even before it started.

as pretty as she is, i think the pictures are extremely cheesy and overdone. in the photo where there are three images of her, the far left one looks like she's deranged.

*sigh* Just when I thought Fashionista was getting over her bitchy side (remember headband gate?(http://www.fashionista.com/2007/08/omigod_i_love_your_bracelet.php#more) - she posts something like this.

Yes, ANTM models may not be high fashion calibre and yes, they are "commercial" (albeit cheesy), however the girls are models. I think they deserve respect and not incessant ridicule. They are after all trying to make it and continue (as shown by Jade) to do so after the show.

Sometimes being brutally honest comes across as b*tchy. But c'est la vie... you know? I agree that these girls may be trying to have careers, but it's grossly unrealistic for the vast majority of them to think they have the slimmest chance of ever being on an honest-to-goodness runway. Still, Shopbop is entirely within their realm of ability...

I actually think that the top photo is gorgeous. And i hate that the latest trends are showcased by 15 year olds. Who the hell made up THAT idiocy?

1. Hilary Rhoda is commercial. Heather Marks is commercial. Victoria Secret girls are commercial. Jade is not commercial.

2. This is the most publicity she'll have for awhile, and although it's not completely positive I wouldn't say it's negative either, and definately not "mean spirited".

3. I think the whole thing is hilarious!

Explain to me how posting an email stating that there's nothing remotely fashionable about an aspiring model's photos, deeming them hilarious (according to the industry insider and you, guest 2:09), and then attaching the photos to the post so that all can mock them on a public blog NOT mean-spirited?

Mean-spirited? Have you ever actually seen her on the show? She's so deluded she'd probably take this posting as a compliment.

Actually, I think Jade is gorgeous. She was just so incredibly mean on the show that it's difficult to take her seriously as a model, which is usually the job where you quietly listen to everyone else's opinions about what you should look like. As for the email, it's truly a real piece of correspondence sent by someone at a major fashion label. That doesn't make it any less biting, but it's not fabricated or even unusual.

Seriously, if this was some unknown girl, this may be mean...but this is Jade, people! She put herself out there as a public figure by going on ANTM, and this is just ripe for ridicule...She knows as well as we do that she is probably too old to do runway in Bryant Park. Then, the fact that she apparently has some renegade agent going around calling labels trying to set up go-sees when people haven't even started casting fall shows yet just makes it even funnier. And, let's be honest, where else have you seen her lately? This is probably the best exposure she's had in months, and we are all talking about her now...you know she loves it.

nobody questioned the authenticity of the email. the question is, why did you feel the need to pass it on to your readers? and if jade was mean on the show, why would you want to stoop to her level? and consider this, some of your readers took the time to point out the mean spirit of this post rather than deciding to just delete you from the book marks. translation: we read your blog, we would like to continue reading it, but posts like this disappoint us. because we know you can do so much better than this.

I can't believe you all are defending your horrible comments by the fact that Jade was "mean on the show" thats completely ridiculous and stupid. I have one word for you: editing. None of you know for sure or have definitive proof of her being mean other than seeing her on tv. In that case, Martha Stewart is angelic, despite what came out of the court testimony during her trial. Grow up.

jade on the show was such a b**tch! and its so funny how her so-called agent is calling around for go-sees. her face does not fit the standard of what the models on the runway look today. and then there's her age. but this should be interesting....

thanks for posting faran!

i love jade's look, she's not afraid to step outside the box. Jade has her own opinions and her own looks- she's not a robot.
Plus it's not like she's a professional super model, she's an amature trying to live out a dream, who are we to stop her by posting this rude article.
sorry fashionista, you might not like these pictures, but someone else might!

Im all for this site not being mean to people that don't deserve it. But choosing to put yourself in the public light (by being a bitch), makes you fair game for ridicule. I do think this is one of those cases where if you think this is mean, you shouldn't participate in it, but you don't have to critiscize those that do.

why is everyone so sensitive? sure we're having a little fun at jade's expense, but who doesn't ridicule the top model contestents/concept throughout the duration of every single episode? good for them for trying, but making fun of jade seems no worse than making fun of anyone else in the public eye who chose to put themselves out there. maybe you're interested in the wrong industry if you can't take a little criticism, especially in a light-hearted manner. models hear a lot worse from their own agents every day.

she has an agency in singapore and she did this lil fashion show ( no-biggie ) and they tried to make it like 'Hey everybody! it's Jade from AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL! LIKE AMERICA'S - NEXT - TOP - MODEL! SHE TOUCHED TYRA BANKS!'

and they let her close the show and she tried to outshine the other models by over-exaggerating her walk and flailing her dress all over the place.

then there was this one time when my friend saw her on the street and called out to her, and she just gave her an 'holier-than-thou' look and walked away.

if that's not bitchy, i don't know what is.

Top Model doesn't cover real high fashion it is just entertainment. These girls should understand the show and know what they are getting themselves into.

And maybe she shouldn't be such a bitch.
Maybe Tyra needs to make requirements for the show other than just height and "personality".

sometimes fashionista.com is extremely irresponsible with their posts.

it's fun to criticize and poke fun, but this is just too much. and then saying that she 'deserves' it b/c she was a b*tch on ANTM is ridiculous...it's television, ppl! how much of it do you think was REAL vs. PUT ON.

grow up and report some real fashion news. no more silly 8th grader like jabs, please.

Wow, I can't believe people are getting so upset about this being "mean spirited". I don't think people should defend their argument by pointing out that Jade has often been seen as a bitch, but I don't think anyone has the right to force a blogger to be anything other than what they are.

ANTM is the biggest joke anyway. This is coming from a huge ANTM fan.

At any rate, if you don't like what they have say, why are you here?

This is extremely mean! What if Jade is a bitch, so is Lily D, Alyona and Snejana. The runway factor shouldn't have anything to do with the age. Look at Magdalena F, she was discovered as 24 year old hag and she's a huge bitch, yet doing every ramp out there.

The posts on Fashionista are becoming less original and more let me fit into the specific image of what fashion is suppose to be and what fashion mogul statements are holy testimony. Too much butt kissing, more originality and individuality.

Seen Jade, she's one of the more unique models and I've seen many. She's been in the business since she was 15-16 y/o. She has good projects lined up though.

Good luck Jade and keep fighting.
