who wore it better mary kate.jpg Last year, Teen Vogue noticed that Mary Kate's favorite vintage tunic had been spun into one of her designs from Elizabeth & James.

Now that same design has landed on Carrie Underwood, prompting the Fug Girls to cry "there are times when the mighty sequin backfires."

But although we think Mary Kate looks more fashion-focused in her own design than Ms. Underwood, there's something to be said for a wholesome, whole-faced Oklahoman strutting around in the same outfit as a favored fashion waif. And she seems to really adore the dress, which is always fun to see in a smile.

So who wore it better?

The American Idol winner, or the girl whose most famous words are "You Got It, Dude" ?

mary kate without a doubt.

it's *kind of* like asking who sang 'satisfaction' better: the rolling stones or britney spears.

Wow! I never would have expected to see Carrie in this outfit. Although they both look pretty good, there is something about Carrie's smile that makes me rank her just a tad bit higher.

Carrie's from Oklahoma, not Texas. Being a country singer with big blonde hair doesn't automatically make you Texan. That being said, she looks totally awful in that outfit.

It works on Mary Kate. Carrie is pretty but the big blonde hair+sequins is slightly more Vegas showgirl.

For me, it's the sleeve length. The fact that MK's are higher on her arm, makes it more of a laidback, party dress. Which, I think the dress is. It's a cocktail frock.

Carrie's sleeves are too long and drag down the entire dress. That, paired with the scarf, make it seem like she is wearing it as a winter coat. Which, it obviously is not.

I think if you are going to wear a super flashy dress like that, you need to not have the big hair and the perfect makeup. There needs to be a low-key/messy quality to the rest of your look to pull off an outfit such as this one.

With that said, MK and A can do no wrong in my eyes.

The answer is always the Olsen!

But Carrie does look really stoked to be in that dress, which helps. I think if her hair didn't look so "fixed" she would have smoked it!

This is a no brainer. Of course Mary Kate looks better than Carrie. But then again I don't like Carrie. Maybe because I'm not a fan of her music and she took Chace Crawford away from me ahahh.

That dress is boss, but it isn't going to look good on anyone unless they're 80, maybe 90, pounds. Therefore MK obvi looks better.

What is this? The Mary Kate & Ashley fan club? Are all of you 16? It shows. MK&A are beautiful, but they always look like CRAP both physically and fashion-wise. Such a waste. The answer is CARRIE. She is always looks amazing and fresh. MK&A always look like they just got out of bed, got dressed and put makeup on in the dark, and never brushed their hair. Maybe they don't own a mirror.

I LOVE this dress on MK, and last weekend I found several on the sale rack at Neiman Marcus, but sadly, I found it to be much harder to rock than MK makes it seem. Those sequins made me look like I escaped from the circus.

Yeah, this is def a misguided case of Olsen love. I like MK's color and sleeve length better, but good makeup and hair wins over bad (and more) makeup and hair. Dead rat is not a fashion sense.

CARRIE LOOKS AMAZING -- NO CONTEST! MK looks like an elf trying to play dressup, 80 pounds is way too small to pull off grown up clothes. Carrie is a beautiful, classy, amazingly talented woman who can wear a burlap bag and look hot. MK is a cute, waif like doll who needs to dress more her age and size.

omg. people are freaking delusional.

obviously mary kate looks the best. it looks like she just tossed it on, hardly any effort. carrie, on the other hand, looks like she hired some up and coming stylist that told her that the dress was hot, but then forgot to tell her that the scarf needed to be tossed and the overdone hair should be saved for oklahoma or texas or wherever the hell she comes from. and i don't give a damn if it was cold outside, she shouldve worn an amazing jacket or something.

a million votes for MK. Carrie needs to stick to the basics.

If you ignore the neck up, Mary Kate looks better. It almost looks too big and baggy on Carrie, im sure its because its flippin 20 degrees out there! But still..

If we were going on neck up, Carrie all the freakin way! Shes gorgous...cant say the same about MK...shes got those evil eyes that scare the shit out of you.

even though she sort of has a beak.
she can just pull things off in a way that words can't adhere to... carrie is gorgeous but the scarf argh the hair argh... ease off the sequins if the afforementioned are in play.

Pull the hair back, remove the scarf and alter the sleeves and CE has it—hands down! While I know “we” (yes, I’m including myself) tend to think of MK as a fashion icon, I can’t help but address the fact that she indeed looks like a scary, malnourished waif who while scouring rubbish was fortunate to find a great vintage piece!

Poor, poor little Carrie Underwears. MKA has emerged from her wholesome child-star cucoon as a gamine, neu-grunge fashion maverick. You are "Born To Make You Happy"-era Britney Spears with an added dose of dosey-do.

i'm sorry but when would anyone WANT to look like a "pretty barbie doll"? at least MK looks grown up and classy. a lot of the time less is more and she completely defines just that. i actually can barely look at carrie underwood because it's hurting my eyes so much! we shouldn't base this on WHO they are either. the question is who wore it best. and, of course, mk takes it, hands down.

speaking of, where are carrie's hands?

I'm sorry, but is it even a competition? MK looks divine yet laid back, while Carrie looks like she's trying WAY too hard to make any attempt at fashion (that doesn't involve the mannequin at JC Penny). She should have just stuck to some faded jeans with rhinestones and a white tee, ya'll.

hilarious that people think MK can do no wrong. She looks like an emaciated zombie with a bad meth habit who forgot to have her daily brain ration. Glittery dresses are inherently tacky and over-the-top anyways, so it looks better on a country star with big hair and a big personality, not someone who looks like she stepped out of Schindler's list.
