Would You Wear

Would You Wear a Dickie?

tory burch dickie.jpgA dickie, (no giggles, please), is a sweater or dress with a removable collar and cuffs. It gives the illusion of wearing a blouse underneath an outer layer without suffering the inevitable bunch up.
We thought dickies were for another generation, as in they’ve never really seemed fashion forward.
A couple of months ago, we saw a dickie at the Marc store, followed by a string of Tory Burch sweater versions. Then, just this past week, we encountered a dickie dress from See By Chloe, one of our favorite lines. What’s going on here?
We understand the practicality – it’s like two pieces in one!
But there’s something so old-fashioned (and kind of funny) about it – plus, we’ve perfected the art of comfortably layering a thin sweater over our favorite Steven Alan button-down anyway. So what’s the point?
Would you wear a dickie? Or do you think you’re layering skills are enough?

Personally, I wouldn’t, but I don’t think it’s horribly tacky or old-fashioned either, it’s just not quite “me”.

I agree that the thought of wearing a fake blouse is a little bit off-putting but dickies are actually a godsend for those of us with big busts!

I use to be really against the idea of dickies (it just seemed kind of tacky) until i realized that it was one of the best options of creating the illusion of layering while still maintaining a slim and uncluttered silhouette without weird bulging from the shirt underneath(unless you are super super skinny)

Um. NO.
That would be like a clip-on tie.

Miu Miu had silk/linen dickies walk the runway with some of their mini dresses…tres cute and definitely makes for an expensive statement in defense of nerds.

I’ve never actually worn one, but it sounds like a great idea to me. I hate the feeling of fitted sweater sleeves over less fitted shirt sleeves, and I think I would be willing to risk the tacky factor if it meant not feeling like a blimp in all my layers.

It’s something my mum might have made me wear in the third grade. I was going to say just get a slim-cut polo; not too much bunchiness there… but then again I have a small chest, so what do I know.

all i can think about is how awkward it must be to undress with a dickie. i mean, let’s say you and the object of your desire are in the heat of the moment: “excuse me, let me take off my cuffs”? or maybe it’s hot; it’s like the crotchless panty of business attire.

you can totally tell! think about it, a blouse falls completly different over the body when it is not layered.
with that being said, we sold a piece from theory at the boutique i work at which was in true dickie form. people loved it.
