Would You Wear Colored Mascara?

Picture 3.pngSomeone recently asked me if I ever change my look, hair and make-up speaking. I was a little taken aback until I realized that I really don’t - I’ve been doing the “natural” thing my whole life, using only neutral makeup.

So I decided to make a few changes:

First, inspired by Marni’s runways, I purchased a pink lipstick, and even wore it during the day. Then I even threw on some sparkles a la Zac Posen for effect.

Now I’m thinking about buying a bright mascara instead of my usual black.

Colored mascara’s been popping up on the runway for a few years now, starting with blue at Dior, gold at Gucci and this season’s white lashes at Erin Fetherston.

MAC has a bright teal that would be perfect for spring, and I’ve read a billion times that blue mascara is supposed to “make eyes pop” as it’s always put, but I can’t help but feel like I might end up looking like a little raver who forgot that she’s supposed to be at work.

Would you wear colored mascara? Or is this just too out there for everyday life?

Blue mascara is my go-to when I don't feel like putting on makeup but want to look a little done up. I have the Green and Pink Maybelline one, it's great and a little subtle. I always always get compliments when I wear it.

I agree with Laia, when I see a girl with anything other than black mascara and it looks good, I feel like she knows how to put herself together. Subtle colors lightly applied to the eye is a great alternative to looking like a goth raver especially for spring and summer months.

I use blue, green, and purple mascaras. Neutral "natural" looks bore me to tears and show no creativity, so I always spice things up with pretty colors.

Bright blue, caboodles-style, reminds me of grade 8. Navy blue, however, is wonderful!

Oh by the way, I wasn't saying I have green and pink mascara from Maybelline, just that that's the kind of Mascara I use, the one that comes in the green and pink packaging. God forbid anyone thinks I wear pink mascara!!!

I've been thinking about purple mascara lately and the next time I'm out I think I'll pick some up. My friend was wearing it and it's a really unusual touch (in a good way).

I don't like brightly coloured mascara, but I adore aubergine-coloured mascara. Mavala does a terrific one...right now I use YSL's one though. It sits really nicely against blue eyes, looks subtly surprising and just... works. Hate electric blue, but I'd like to find a good, warm indigo - something very definitely blue, not navy or bluey-grey [as some blues tend to be.]

I can't stand colored mascara.
Maybe if it is super super subtle it would look nice.

But it just screams junior high to me.

I like purple mascara, but I generally stick with boring black.

I'm sorry, but that model looks like she has a terrible eye infection.

i'm not a fan of colored mascara...i feel like outside of cosmetics ads, it looks too odd against the natural color. if you want a pop of color, try dotting on urban decay's 24/7 liner in a bright color (i use covet)over your normal liner...it catches the light without being too obvious.

I wear Benefit's blue BADgal mascara alot and it gives me the perfect amount of dark blue/navy color so that I have a little color on my eyes but not so much that I'd have people staring at me. Plus side: it's supposed to "make eyes look whiter and brighter!"

I love it. I love the bad girl blue -- it's subtle but it works -- and honestly and perhaps surprisingly Sephora's store green goes on really nicely, color but not too gauche. (I have brown eyes and green looks great; blue sometimes looks a little strained.) I like it with a really classic look otherwise for everyday wear, although I will admit that when I am out on the town I use it for drama and glitz.

I LOVE colored mascara! It adds a subtle edge to any look. From teal, to blue, to purple and even gold - AbFab. And while the formulas aren't always the best for length or volume...Va-va-voom!

I've always wanted to try it but haven't invested in it yet. I don't want a cheapy one and I'm not sure what color to get either.

I used to have this amazing purple mascara. It was quite subtle, but you could tell it was purple. Unlike the neon mascara I had in junior high, this purple could be worn in more normal settings. I'd like to find some more like that.
