Would You Wear Glitter?

Jan 09, 2008 @ 9:00am

glitter.jpgAt the bottom of our old Caboodle lives a massive jar of MAC Silver Dusk, (a legitimate must-have from high school). We unearthed it this weekend for the first time in years, despite second thoughts of looking too "junior-high".

We swept some across our eyelids and cheekbones, mostly because we were sick all of last week and needed to look a little more alive. We're feeling much better now - and yet we're still using the sparkles.

Now, we're dying to bust out our old Hard Candy eye liner. It's pink with giant squares of actual glitter, a look we haven't rocked since 8th grade dances. We're dying to line our eyes with it some night this week. But is that ok?

Erin Fetherston, Zac Posen and Christian Dior were just a few of the Spring Runways to feature a glittery eye. But we're a 23 year old who's not prancing down a runway on her way to work (ok, maybe we are, but it's only in our head).

So we have to ask, are we too old to wear glitter?

I'm 22, and I wear Urban Decay's Midnight Cowboy Rides Again eye shadow.

Twenty-three? Definitely not too old. Just keep it down to one sparkly/glitter item at a time. After 30, I think a little sparkle is fine, glitter... not so much.

Do it! Life's too short to not wear glitter.

Giant squares of actual glitter, as an eyeliner, that dates back to highschool? Your poor eyes!

What's with all the "too old to do xxx" posts? Glitter, barrettes, headbands, ribbons, miniskirts... This is getting boring.

Style is about wearing what you like and owning it. It's not about arbitrary dates.

I'm 30 and I also own Midnight Cowboy in liner and in shadow, and I always wear a little shimmer under the brow... pales in warm weather, golds in cold weather. Lorac's latest shimmer compact has the best combination of eyeshadows. You're never too old. Just don't wear frosted lipstick.

would I? Nope, MAC's black-gold "buried treasure" eyeliner is as sparkly as I get, nowadays.

Should you? Sure! It's not like you're going to work at some ultra-conservative job that will crucify you for having fun makeup on.

40 yr olds were rocking glitter at Boombox and the like.... David Bowie was rocking glitter at age 25 or so.... age is quite irrelevant as long as it's worn with flair...

23 is exactly the age you SHOULD be wearing glitter. I used to traipse all over town wearing huge sweeps of blue glitter on my eyes and cheeks, hitting all the clubs and dancing till dawn. Do what you want---the days of wine and glitter are much too short.

Hell yeah, go for it! No one's "too old" to do this or that. If you like it, you do it, and ignore the haters!

YOUR CABOODLES reference made me smile! omg, my big sister had Caboodles but not me. I would go into it though...

But never too old for glitter! yay for glitter! It's SOOOOO glam rock! Yay for glitter rock!

Careful about the context( rest of look), you might look like an escappee from the glitterfest also known as the US gymnastic team

All through the holidays I wore unabashed silver glitter eyeshadow. On one hand I was wary that maybe I was just trying to recapture a look that came and went in 1997... but on the other hand, who cares? Simple black sweaterdress + black tights + a lightly applied glittery eye-- worked for me. The reality is that I'm getting close to 30 and have a corporate job that somewhat demands that I spend my money on suits and not fun party clothes anymore, but I console myself that there is always makeup, and a little sparkle can make simple clothes look more minimalist, less boring.

You are definitely not too old for glitter. And I love that you still have your Caboodle- I still use mine too. It is pink and purple, and decoupaged with cutouts from Sassy.

There's a fine line. I'm 26 BUT I'm in law, typically one of the most conservative of conservative dressing professions. I work for a judge with a strict closed-toe shoe and suit policy in court. That means absolutely no glittery glitter during the day, and even at night where I would remotely suspect that the partner from the killer firm I want to work for would show up.

But I have a stash of Tony and Tina glitter in red and lavender in my makeup drawer. For, uh, Halloween. Yeah. Halloween.

there is no age limit for glitter

except for back in the 6th grade when everybody in middle school was looking like strippers O_O because they were messing around with thier older sisters make up but that was 03...

and now in the 11th grade
hardly nobody wears glitter only shimmer that comes with our eyeliner

and bravo for the people who do wear glitter ^_^
