phillip forever.jpg Lauren at Forbes emails us over some outrage:


The 3.1 Phillip Lim top that she found at Fred Segal last season for $320 is now at Forever 21.

Except it's blousier.

And yellower.

And $22.80.

We wonder if Lim has the resources, or the desire, to sue the company, and also what girl thinks she can wear a giant streak of saffron without sunglasses.

Just wondering - by posting these, have you ever worried that you may be prompting someone to go out and buy them? I like this feature and find it interesting, but at the same time, I wasn't aware of this top before, and, being a big fan of yellow, now I am tempted! (I know, shame on me, but you get my point.)

..and with cheap buttons, terrible fit, not beautifully draped cuz it's not silk, and it probably already has loose threads that if you pull the whole overlock stitch, will come out.

I'd rather wear an original Lim and be proud. No need for outrage. :)

Southwest, it may be naive to assume we're not encouraging people to buy the knockoffs :)

I have stopped shopping at Forever 21 because I dislike their labor practices, but I would also never buy a Phillip Lim anything unless it was on sale.

Sometimes I wonder if by showing designers how easy it is for a chain to copy their clothes, we are in fact persuading them to create outfits at easier prices so the temptation to buy copies subsides... I don't think Phillip should sell a top for $10, but I still wonder if he's overreaching with his current pricing.

Although perhaps I am the one who's naive, at least about that.

Wow, noone can deny that's a blatant rip-off. However, as much as I understand that this is Lim's original design, I also have to say that someone who's going to go for that top at Forever 21 will not ever pay $320 for it in a department store. It's such a different demographic, and if these designers want "fast food chains" to stop copying, they ought to stop putting ridiculous price tags on their clothes. Ugh, I'm not outraged.

*shocked* man, i mean forever 21 does copy lotsa styles, but never THAT outright! i mean it's like the same same exact thing (much cheapier looking tho)

i love these articles, and always read them. so, the earlier guest woyuld know that forever 21 FREQUENTLY copy thigns that ourightly.
