Wang 4.jpgPardon our hazy photos -
Alexander Wang had bags of dirt brought in to cover the concrete floors at his Fall 08 show last night. Every model left a haze of dirt around her on the catwalk, making for an effect of, um, well we don’t know, but it was kind of cool (or at least we thought it was after we realized it was dirt and not dry ice – a harrowing thought.)
Of note: Every piece of clothing (with the exception of one beige dress-like garment worn by Chanel Iman) was either black, gray or white.
Wang’s collection continued the season’s theme of androgynous dressing (see his grandfather sweaters, trousers and vests for evidence,) as seen at Band of Outsiders and Rag & Bone, and he too designed plenty of high-waisted, wide-leg pants like at Sari Gueron and Adam Lippes (more on them later,) and included ripped stockings on the runway, like at Baby Phat.
Even though the collection is kind of signature Alexander Wang (you could tell it was his clothes even if you found it on a sales rack at Sears,) that’s exactly why we love it. We’d wear any piece, any day – and we’re pretty sure that’s how he wants it.
