Blazer Boy

boys blazer.jpgI fell in love with the 3.1 Philip Lim jacket, at left, while browsing on eLuxury last week.

I love wearing jackets but I don't always want to look like I'm on my way to the country club. The shrunken fit of the Philip Lim makes the look a lot younger, and kind of precious - almost like picture day in second grade.

But Philip Lim's version goes for over $700, so what's a stylish boy to do?

Check out the Brooks Brothers boy's department, of course! I found this prep school version for a fraction of the original's price, and I'm already planning on throwing it over my Steven Alan shirts and Rogues Gallery tees.

Now if I could only get cheaper versions of everything Thom Browne through his imaginary boy's department, then I'd be all set to have my photo snapped everyday.

My favorite way to wear a blazer is with a tight fighting v-neck underneath, and then push the sleeves of the blazer up. It's kinda preppy-ish.. but I work for a bank, so go figure.

I'm not really a fan of double-breasted blazers though. They make me feel like I'm wearing a coat thats too big so I had to fold it over itself to make it my size.

I mean, I understand the thought process behind shopping in the boys' department if you are small enough. But as an overall fashion choice for "normal sized" people, there is a huge different between shrunken and/or tailored and things that are too small. As a male fashion blogger, I think you should have taken that into account.

Also, I'm really not sure how good a double breasted blazer would look over a t-shirt. They tend to hang weirdly if they're worn open. I guess a tailored one would look better though...

As you will notice. the Brooks Brothers Blazer is single breasted, and will look quite cool over a tee shirt. I would never say never about double breasted suits, though, as I have seen Hamish Bowles look awesome in open dbs.

Ah thanks for that. The last time I looked for boys blazers on that site they were for like, 8 year olds. Loving those penny loafers too. (Loafers are making a comeback, mark my words!)

Just last week I scored a shrunken Phillip Lim blazer at Nordstrom Rack -- normally $600, got it for $60!!
