Cashmere Mafia Gets Whacked?

Feb 26, 2008 @ 11:25am

Cashmere Mafia We hear from a TV source that the very silly Cashmere Mafia has been laid to rest.

If the internal gossip bleeding proves true, it means Candace Bushnell has won this battle with Darren Starr - remember, both her Lipstick Jungle show and Darren's woolly production are based on previous Bushnell books.

The move also marks the first time (maybe) that Patricia Field hasn't been able to save or at least salvage a production from total boredom - remember her costumes for Hope and Faith? They basically rescued the whole show.

Those wondering what Lucy Liu will do with her spare time might jet over to Germany, where the actress is giving an exhibit of her paintings next month.

Maybe she and Iekeleine can have a joint show at Gagosian?

I agree. Cashmere Mafia has the edge on fashion and being a little bit compelling. Lipstick Jungle is dull, dull, dull.

Seriously? Cashmere Mafia is so much better than lipstick Jungle... I find Cashmere Mafia much more realistic... well as realistic as television can get anyway..
BOOOOO!

Lame, I never even had time to watch the show, it looked pretty good!

While neither are great TV shows, Cashmere Mafia is ten times better than Lipstick Jungle, which is completely stupid and boring. In fact the only thing I liked about Lipstick Jungle was that outfit Victory wore on her first date with that rich guy xD

Well, she's in Paris now for fashion week. I saw her at the Dior show a couple days ago

I much prefer Lipstick Jungle to Cashmere Mafia, which just seems too...cartoonish for my taste (Lucy Liu's wackadoo outfits in particular, which are more suited to a drag queen than a high-profile magazine publisher - believe me, I've worked on both sides of the business, edit and advertising, and no way would a publisher show that much cleavage or wear fur water wings to the office and risk offending a potential client). Nor would a publisher have any say whatsoever over a magazine cover (let alone have the power to kill one they didn't like), as Liu's character did in a recent episode. It's fiction, baby.

This was better when they had the lesbian storyline, cause thats the only way a craptastic show like this can get red-blooded American men such as me to watch this! These two shows are God-awful, and the sooner they leave the airwaves, the better off we all will be! I do have to say, that LJ is much worse-although thats not really saying much! BTW-how do thse women find the time to "do" lunch, and how could they possibly know each other? They all seem to come from totally different worlds! And whats with the men- on both these shows- that they appear to be total slackers, what with the 5 o'clock shadows that went out with Miami Vice?

I've watched both shows and I have to say that I prefer Lipstick Jungle. I actually buy that they're friends. The girls in Cashmere Mafia barely have any chemistry and their relationships with each other seem so contrived. I have to say (with shame) that I was thinking the other day - what if they combined Lucy Lui, Frances O'Connor, Kim Raver and Lindsay Price into one big super show? I think it might just be a fabulous show. Too bad Darren Star and Candace Bushnell are on the outs. It could've been great.

Oh my God! This is so sad, I hope it's not true. I've watched the show since the first episode and I love ittttttt. And excuse moi, but I don't think cartoonish is a fair adjective to describe it. It's all we want: magic, fashion, cocktails... you get the picture. And btw... who doesn't remember a column writer (aka Carrie Bradshaw) who lived in a huge apartment and had a closet anyone can dream of (shoes, shoes, shoes, and great outfits) How real was that? And didn't we all loved it. I think LSJ is very dull and is missing that fantasy we all crave. Enough said. Until next time, xoxo

What?!?! This cannot be true. Lipstick Jungle is a terrible show with a boring cast. I couldn't even stay awake during the second episode.
Who cares if Cashmere Mafia is unrealistic or that the outfits are terrible at times. It's a fun show. The acting is great. The cast is much more appealing. The plot is interesting. I'm addicted. It's something to watch now that Project Runway is almost over.

I don't understand how the TERRIBLE Lipstick Jungle can survive while the actually good show Cashmere Mafia gets cut? Seriously...who would rather watch Brooke Shields over Lucy Lui??? BOOOOOOO

No!!!!!!!!1 I love lady business shows! Three highly successful women and a fourth woman who knows them from somewhere!

seriously cashmere mafia was unbelievable but it was entertaining and the writing was funny. and what's her names husband, the one who cheater on her, is HOT.

and as everyone else has said, lipstick jungle is BO-RING.

cashmere was by far the better of the two....LSJ is borderline melodramatic/nighttime soap, while CM had the benefit of at least being fun to watch. i hope it comes back.

This can't be true! I'm addicted after only a few episodes. LSJ is boring and too slow-moving. CM is much better and I love Juliet's clothes. Yes, SATC and LSJ are based on Bushnell's books, but you can only use the content for so long. Star & the writers had to come up with their own stuff for SATC and look how successful it was. Please don't let CM be cancelled.

LSJ is such a snooze, really. I've never been so bored. Cashmere Mafia is fun, it certainly wasn't a replacement for Sex & the City, but it was making due! Let it live!

Please, please, please don't let Cashmere Mafia be canceled!

Please dont cancel Cashmere Mafia!I enjoy it so much better than Lipstick Jungle, although I watch them both. LJ just had a lot more media attention and publicity than CM...I like them both, but I enjoy the play, the bantor, the energy and the tamer morals of CM...Keep it on!!!

I love this show. Is there somewhere we can petition for them to not axe it? I do watch Lipstick Jungle as well but its a little too dark for me. Cashmiere is light hearted and funny even with the husband cheating. You actually buy these women as being powerful and fun.
Lipsticks characters are too judgmental with each other.
I want my Cashmiere Mafia!!!!

Its one of the few shows that i couldnt continue watching. It looked so promising but i was hugely disappointed by LJ. I hope CM continues showing!
