Le Ronson, C'est Moi

Ronson 10.jpg (and now, a word from faran...)

In high school, we had to read All The King's Men. I didn't love it, except for one part:

Where it's explained that a soul mate is someone who sees you the way you see yourself.

That doesn't mean their depiction is accurate, or fair, or even necessarily flattering.

It just means that somewhere, someone sees the you that you want to be, the you that you can be, and the you that you can't quite explain, but cling to through every conversation, every experience, and yeah, every outfit.

That's probably why we love Charlotte Ronson so much on this site.

She's one of the few designers - along with Chloe, Marc by Marc, Luella, Miu Miu sometimes - that seems to plumb deep down through our guts, figure out what kind of girl we wanted to be in high school, in college, in bed this morning, and throws it up onto the runway.

Charlotte's clothes aren't the most original this week (that goes to Rodarte or Ben Cho), and they're not the most beautifully built (like Proenza, Chris Benz, or Oscar).

But they're the ones that cling close to our heart like plastic around a really good, really new CD. And for that, we salute them.

Merci, Charlotte Ronson - as always, we crushed.

blah. her clothes are SO boring and they are made like crap. I know you hit on those two points above but they cannot be overstated. This is sub-par Urban Outfitters design and construction.

Umm...I don't get it...You wanted to be a preppy-hippie lumber jack.

Not impressed at ALL.

It reminds me of Express, circa 1997...

Agreed. I've never been impressed by her work, and the construction is poor. Not sure why she's such a darling in certain circles.

First of all: I really love how you wrote that.

Second of all: People are so over-conditioned to expect ridiculous things coming down the runway that when they see something they could ACTUALLY WEAR, they freak out. Seriously, none of you would wear any of this? I find that hard to believe.

this stuff looks like it could be Old Navy or Gap. some of it is cute in its own simple understated way. however, i wouldn't pay $200+ for stuff that looks like mass market but does not appear to be constructed very well. i like the bright knit berets better than any of the clothes, i think.

I think it's pretty cute.
I like the short-sleeved sweater dress and the purple skirt with the sweater. Also the dress with the cream colored top and the demin skirt.
I really like the t-strap flats, too. Not so flattering (especially on someone as short as I am), but they REALLY remind me of a pair of bright periwinkle flats that I will forever regret not ordering from Top Shop.

The collection also reminds me that I still need a pair of black straight-leg jeans or pants a la the ones with the striped top.

Don't get me wrong, I love wearable. I just don't think this is a good collection. That and Charlotte Ronson sounds like a total spoilt brat in interviews. I only like the outfit with the fuchsia skirt. I love Luella and Miu Miu, but sorry, have to disagree with this one.

Re: chloeandoliver

No, I honestly wouldn't wear any of it and don't think most of my friends would either. It reminds me of the 90's and not in a good way. It looks like stuff my Mom wanted me to wear when I was 13.

I'd rather buy "wearables" at Target.

i agree a lot of it is unwearable, but there are still always pieces from her collection that stand out... you just have to know where to look for them...

this is from her fall line, but i bought it and i wear it all the time...super cozy cashmere dress.

I wish it reminded me of the 90's! I was there too and the clothes left me cold. I did, however, love the humane society sponsorship and the little faux-fur jacket with the anti-fur pin. Cute.

I, too, like how you wrote that. Bravo!

But the clothes are terrible! They look like clothes that should be wearable, but simply are ill-fitting and not really very interesting. I would rather wear the sweater dresses I already have in my closet than those things.

I LOVED the new Charlotte Ronson collection! It's only getting better each season!!! I like the clothes and so do all my friends! And how cool for Charlotte to use her show as a platform to help influence other's to become fur free! She rocks- Charlotte is so cool! Rock on Charlotte!!!

...but I already own all of this....?

This is why I like Marc, or the Paris shows, and especially Prada: they take cues from the street, yes, but they make it in ways that at least I would never come up with anyway, which in turn inspires me to wear things in new ways, which then inspires them (maybe?) to create new collections, and on in a lovely cycle. Yes, the Ronson clothes are quite cute, but I already own a skirt like that purple one from AA, and I have a mustard cardigan, skinny jeans, flats, and plaid. Kudos to her for being on-trend and cute, but....i'm not craving it the way I do other things.

But I do applaud your writing. Excellent job.

I can't say it's doing anything for me. I'm feeling the Gap/Urban Outfitters influence in this collection - and this is apparently NY Fashion Week? Next please.

omg.
Urban Outfitters? Totally.

They look all cute up there, but then they hate you when you try them on. Like the vision of what you want yourself to be, but when you try to wear it, you realize its just not you.
