ELLE Still Casting Potential Assistants

elle.jpg Reader Hector writes in to tell us that ELLE is still searching for reality TV contestants:

“You’d think that castings would be done by now for a show that’s supposed to start in the Spring. But I guess it is “reality” TV, so not much by way of pre-production is really needed. Interesting that it’s still being advertised as an unnamed show (wasn’t it supposed be called “Fashionista”?), and [the casting notice] doesn’t mention ELLE, either… and [The casting notice] was just posted this Thursday.”

Well, we don’t know what everyone is waiting for:

If we were young and new to the industry, we’d kill to have a shot at working for ELLE - even if it was being filmed on national TV.

Obviously, there’s been a lot of cringes about a reality TV show for a magazine slot (an editor at ELLE even told us during Fashion Week that she was “horrified”), but wait a second - that Rolling Stone show on MTV may have been rather boring… but one of the guys on it did score a job at Men’s Journal through Jan Wenner.

Worth it?

How do we apply??? I'm a recent college grad in NYC. This sounds amazing! But I can't find anything about it!

All the other interns I know think this sounds like a terrible idea, none of us would do it. America's Next Top Model hasn't exactly given *any* of those girls viable modelling careers, has it?

The other night, one of my co-workers was approached by a producer from the show asking her to come to an audition this week - this is a girl with absolutely no writing or styling experience whatsoever, with no interest in working in the fashion industry, who was apparently just 'scouted' on looks alone. She was really into the idea of auditioning, but only because she had an extremely deluded idea of what an editorial assistant is paid...!

Such a joke - and exactly why this concept is absolutely infuriating to me, and all the other writers and stylists I know who, despite having actual talent, have had to work really hard to get to where we are now...
