First Look: Rodarte

rodarte 8.jpgYesterday’s Rodarte show was unbelievable, in more ways than one.

The clothes were ethereally pretty - one girl after another walked around the stage in floaty, barely-there dresses, and the show closed with three gowns so sheer the girls appeared to be ghost-like.

In fact, there was something kind of eerie about the show in general - maybe it’s that the clothes are clearly not made for people (except for, maybe, Keira Knightley,) or that the collection ended with Karlie Kloss’ slow, creepy walk, which actually worked to stunning effect at this particular show.

We don’t think there is a person out there who could hope to actually wear any of these dresses, best described as delicate, tangible holograms.

But isn’t that what’s so great about Rodarte? It’s all about the idea, not the reality, as seen at almost every other show. In fact, upon leaving, we didn’t hear anyone give that old complaint, “But it’s just not wearable” as you tend to hear at any show that ventures into questionable territory. No, at Rodarte, all you heard was, “Beautiful, just beautiful.”

And the most unbelievable part? A smile on Anna’s face on her way to the door…

Breathtaking. But I'm sorry, I'm really not a fan of how the models look. Their faces...ick.

I like Karlie's freakshow walk. It gives you more time to look over the clothes! :D

Hm, is this the collection that was in January Vogue? I think Kate and Laura Mulleavy said their inspiration was Japanese Animation and that would explain all the funky dresses. Not exactly wearable but really innovative.

I love them. Everything looks like you could go out into the woods with dye and a sewing machine and come out with a lot of these clothes. And they did it in the most amazing way possible.
