Ksubi, Sex, Fashion

Feb 07, 2008 @ 9:15am

Ksubi 1.jpgWhen we saw Ali Hilfiger whip out a pair of thick, black nerd glasses at the Form show last Saturday, we thought "Oh, interesting choice."

We believed they were the real deal since she put them on only after the lights dimmed and the first model stepped on the runway.

But then we saw her walk in with them at Frank Tell, then Chris Benz, and now Jeremy's snapped them on her face once again at the Ksubi and Sex + Fashion party.

So what do you think - visual aid or hipster accoutrement?

those hipster glasses are out of hand here in Toronto. i'm disappointed to see fashionable people wearing them in NYC.

i really have nothing against Ali Hilfiger, but she just kind of makes me sad. Her dad's clothes were such a blip in the radar as far as fashion to me is concerned, and her life was a MTV reality joke before being a reality joke was perfected, and she is always trying so hard but never good at anything. remember last month when she wanted to be a serious artist? i guess i shouldn't feel sad for her, her life i'm sure is ten times more amazing and priveleged than mine, but there's something a little pitiful about Ali. --B

agreed with guest 1031.
the trend has gotten silly. especially when you see girls in junior high wearing them with a uo cardigan, lohan pants and uggs.

Remember when the movie trainspotters came out and when bono would wear those yellow- tinted frames? They were like sunglasses but not? I wore those one day to school in 1996 and was blasted by insults. The only thing I could think to say to my tormentors was "Well, they're fashionable in New York!" Well, they most likely weren't, but Wisconsin kids didn't know. I feel like that's what these glasses remind me of.

seriously, when is rich girls coming to dvd? i've been waiting for years!

as for the glasses, i wore fake glasses in elementary school too. and i continued to do so throughout college until i had to get reading glasses. now, i wear my "real" reading glasses. but it's because i like the look of glasses. and i like the look of ali's glasses here.

Re: hipster glasses, weren't girls always wearing these ever since Weezer came out? I remember being VERY into these when I was in high school which was quite a few years ago! Of course we didn't call it "hipster" back then...

But maybe I am just defensive because I have a pair of hipster glasses (that are actually prescription lenses) and these geeky thick glasses are the only things that look good on my enormous, big-eyed face!

I saw some photos of Olivia Palermo trying these on and Ally getting jealous. Haha.

hey, i'm up for an eye exam soon and digging ali's frames hard. any cluez where they could be from? i've got some basic black frames about that size, but they are not nearly as thick/cute.
