Let's Talk About Lutz & Patmos

Feb 04, 2008 @ 1:47pm

lutz9.JPGSo we checked out the Lutz & Patmos fall collection at the New Museum's Sky Room last night.

The sights were amazing - unobstructed views of the city, and Carine Roitfeld in the flesh.

But the clothes... We felt the sweaters were cute and wearable. But... A show? For sweaters? One after the other like that? And all pretty plain?

So we thought, "Oh! They must be super soft!" But at first touch, we knew, they were somewhere between wool and Banana Republic cashmere. Hmm...

We're always fans of stuff to throw on to go to the movies on a cold, Monday night but not when it retails in the high hundreds of dollars.

We don't think Kirsten Dunst having designed some of the pieces suddenly makes the collection so noteworthy - so what do you guys think? Adorable covers? Or over-hyped yarn?

[On a side note, the presentation did include one interesting detail - the use of mannequins instead of models, something we've been wondering about since we had the awkward experience of touching the hem of a dress while the model stared back at us at a previous presentation...]

Um.... I'm a knitter and these are unimpressive. You could make one out of decent quality cashmere/wool blend for about a hundred bucks, and they're also a little chunky and bland for my taste. Forever 21 surely does something similar...

As a fact, Lutz and Patmos doe not use TSE cashmere. Also, this was a presentation not a runway show, so you can't judge it using the same criteria.

they are nice but not worth the price. however, a well-knitted garment can last you forever, but if they quality isn't there then you shouldn't bother.

i don't care much for the boxy vests, they are a little juvenile.

i feel like the mannequins are distracting..their pointy hands and little tiny noses freak me out...as for the sweaters, cute and all i guess, but yeah, it definitely looks like something grandma could recreate. especially those last two and that boxy little pink monstrosity. i love a chunky knit as much as the next guy, but no thanks.

Hello knockoffs from Target's winter collection. Literally almost the same things were at Target in BKLY. The hand looks about the same too.

I was also at the Lutz + Patmos and I had the same reaction. I thought I was missing a part of it...was it in the next room?? Yeah WAY cute if your old roomate from Parsons made it for you for X mas, but a fall collection? Really!?
...and the mannequins weren't very friendly:(
The sweaters were nicely made, but unbelievably underwhelming.

I think it's stupid. I would NEVER pay more the $100.00 for a sweater... Some of them i could easily get at AE for WAY WAY less
