Vreeland died in 1989, which would leave plenty of time to have been a mentor to any of those designers

D.V. didn't die until 1989 and was at Vogue until 1971, so how is that scary? It's not like any of those designers are spring chickens, in fact Bill Blass passed away in 2002 (RIP).
