TopShop Really Wants You To Dress Like Kate Moss

LFW Day 01 Topshop 111.jpg Kate Moss may no longer be TopShop’s headline designer, but that doesn’t seem to stop the store’s creative team from referencing her whenever possible.

Yesterday’s collection from the ultimate chain store featured PVC leggings on almost 20 looks, plus shaggy faux fur vests that (unconvincingly) harked Kate’s infamous Fendi coat of last year (you remember; the one that seemed to substitute itself for both a shirt AND pants).

Rounding out the collection were a ton of chunky knits that could be stolen from Jamie Burke or Pete Doherty, plus some creamy, gauzy dresses that achieved a Rodarte kind of float with their rayon swishes (Remember when Kate was a hologram in the McQueen fashion show? They looked like that, with a more believable hemline).

We’re totally psyched for the PVC pants, totally not into the unfur jackets and vests, and also rather taken with the proportion of the jackets - they’re kind of huge, which makes everyone’s neck look longer and frame look bonier - a sort of Moss optical illusion, really.

And here’s the exciting thing: This time, what we want to buy actually matters, since starting this October, TopShop will have retail outlets in America! Aaaah!

The PVC leggings just aren't for me. (Are they even breathable?) But I really like them with that boho-y (-ish?) dress.
The ponchos seem Olsen-worthy, but the BIG jackets (especially with that long dress) just make the models' heads look tiny.
I'm quite intrigued by the last dress - it's got a lot going on, but it works with the muted color and the ethereal fabric.

Oh, and the long white linen dress makes me think of Wendy in Peter Pan.
"But Peter, how do we get to Never Land??"

love the pvc's to death if worn correctly. it's just that i cringe when i think of how in about a year or so from now i will be seeing groups of them running around local malls on all the juicy/hollister adorned tweens/teens...i'll shoot myself if theyre paired with uggs.

Where did you saw the Kate Moss influence? Can't see it at all.

I like the coats, not so keen on the rest.

I like the idea of PVC leggings, I really do. Kate looks awesome in them, they look pretty cool on runways....but then the other day I saw a girl at my school try to wear them with Chucks and a longish sweater, like they were normal leggings, and they just died. She was getting disgusted stares from even the more fashiony girls (including me). I think they are one of those things that only works in the high-fashion world, sadly.

This collection is far more grown up than previous season and I like it - just want to to see if the quality is up to par. Totally disagree that the collection is influenced by Kate Moss - thankfully! Loving the pervuian knitwear!
