It's that time of year again when you want to wear the Spring '08 stuff... but you can't, unless you have a town car, or a permanent residence near the equator. It's times like these when girls resort to layering, a phenomenon that can either be chic or disastrous. It's cool when someone slips a strapless dress or corset over a thin cashmere sweater, and a long-sleeve thermal can look great underneath a cropped jacket. Even deeply colored tights under shorts can be cute, as long as the shape of your outfit goes more equestrian and less surfer. But what about that classic high-school combo, dresses over jeans? One side of our wardrobe shrieks "No! Hippie art teacher! Go back!" But the other coos, "Ooh, Venetia Scott and Marc Jacobs, right?" It's a tough battle, one that pits comfort and craving up against the fact that you might look a little stupid. Can it be done?
