Kimball: "So you feel like everything went well?"
Whitney: "Yeah, I think so..."
Kimball: "Because I didn't feel like at the shoot, when you were taking down all the notes [deubutantes' names and ages], it didn't seem quite...natural, to me. ... So, where would you see yourself?"
Whitney: "I sort of see myself in styling."
Kimball: "Then maybe you should pursue that."

the girl couldn't pronounce givenchy! that's fashion 101! anyone who ever had a audrey hepburn poster hanging in their dorm room (and let's assume whitney did) should know that.

On a somewhat unrelated note, the fact that neither of these ladies even attempted to speak French (ever) made me die a little on the inside. Would it have killed them to learn a few measly phrases?

so i've watched that show only a number of times and it always seems somewhat scripted, but this time i think every last detail was written by writers (thank god for the end of the strike!). the whole thing with dinner between heidi's family and spencer was so fake. who talks like that? and most importantly, why the hell was i watching? and with the work i have done styling, its a big freaking deal if you burn a dress. give me a break.

she didn't burn that dress, come on. that was a terrible little conflict. . . oh well, here's this other (better) dress waiting for you at ferretti that fits perfectly, lauren!

yes, it definitely appeared to be written.

and I'm sure someone was hired to ruin Lauren's dress because she hadn't wrecked it herself in that club.

Kimball was being sarcastic, right?

it seemed like they had whitney doing a lot of, hm in nicer terms, "grunt work". she's not supposed to be an intern anymore?

also, i thought it was completely irresponsible for lauren to even wear that dress out to the club, you're in paris.. go shopping.

That was just a silly thing to say. To ask an intern (which Whitney clearly still was despite that whole "you're a fashion contributer now" thing) if the tasks they were doing were tasks they'd like to do long-term? Is anyone going to answer yes honestly to that? And I was also surprised by Whitney's pronunciation of Givenchy.

What I was more surprised at was how entitled Lauren acted. First to go alter their itinerary to pick up their gowns first. Then to tweak another designer's dress and wear it to a club and think that it would still be in brand new shape the next day? That was a huge mistake. It must have reeked of smoke. And then the curling iron...wow.

Then she mounts a Vespa and rides around Paris in the rain while wearing the second dress?? There must have been a clause in her contract: "If you ruin one or two Ferretti gowns....no biggie."

And wasn't the whole Vespa scenario a bit too much like the Lizze McGuire movie (yes I saw it.)? And what an uninspired thing for the editors of the show to rip off the finale of Sex and the City by using MC Solaar's song, La Belle et le Bad Boy. Lauren did dare to call The Hills "an unscripted Sex and the City" in Newsweek recently.

I was disappointed. Oh well. Ces't la vie.

When I saw that exchange between Whitney and Kimball, I laughed out loud. A) Because I thought it was hilarious, and Kimball was the perfect amount of bitchy. B) It was a great way for the writers to start slipping in the fact that Teen Vogue is completely over the Hills. and C) Because I knew it would be mentioned on this website. Thank you Fashionista, for deriving the same pleasure out of those awkward reality tv moments that I so consistently find myself enjoying.

stacy, re: lizzie maguire. "this is what dreams are made of" is an amazing song.

and there is no way that that whole dress conflict was in any way real.

I am SO glad this conversation is happening. I lost my MIND when she pronounced Givenchy. LOST IT! It didn't cross my mind that the whole ruined dress deal was scripted (silly me, I'm a lil new to the Hills)... I was freaking the hell out over the dresses... This entire episode was a lil too much for me to take. I was either completely frustrated, appalled or entirely envious that these featherbrained fowls were actually involved in the industry and yet knew nothing... NOTHING... and half the time Lauren doesn't even seem that interested.
On another note, Heidi talks just like her mom which I thought was kind of cute. That aspect of the episode was probably takes the cake in forced serious moments... and awkward ones too (step dad's interaction with Spencer in the drive way.)

I was thinking that maybe Whitney's pronounciation of Givenchy was fake. She actually knows her fashion...I find it unilkely that she wouldn't know the correct pronounciation. I think the producers were trying to showcase them as these two American girls in a totally unknown compeltely foreign place...with strange words that they don't know how to pronounce.

Or perhaps, I'm just giving Whitney more credit than she deserves.

Also, Lauren's acting is improving. She seemed to be near tears when she realized the curling iron was on. Either the producers burned the dress without telling her first, or the girl may have some actual acting ability.

And, the Sex and the City similarities were a little absurd.

thank god it is scripted, because otherwise I would be completely baffled at the fact that someone whose been interning for far longer then most normally would be so ignorant to 1) place getting her OWN dress above actually doing a task she was sent to paris for, and also 2) go out in a thousand dollar dress LOANED to her

ridiculous!

Thank you fashionista! Givenchy? I have never fallen for Whitney as the "smart" one. See her say it again and again at http://fashionintelligentsia.wordpress.com/ - as well as other fashion morsels.

Oh how much I hated this episode. It was too scripted and too boring for me to that I couldn't even continue to watch after Lauren screwed her perfect dress.
And my mind blew off too when Whitney pronounced Givenchy wrong. I thought she should've been fired from the fashion industry at that exact moment and now I feel that Teen Vogue interns aren't all that...well, let's just say I feel like I can be a much much much better one.
This episode made me very sad to learn about how unprofessional Lauren is. And once again, it gives me hope that I can be a Teen Vogue intern one day.
The episode was a complete joke.
