Daisy Lowe Approved

lace socks.jpgOur most fashionable heels don’t hold up so well on the streets of New York, and often times, we don’t want to put them at risk while we dance away to The Kills.

So lately, even at work, we’ve been pairing ensembles with some pretty kick-ass, take no prisoners, rough and tumble boots.

But since we don’t want to come off like a 2008 Courtney Love, we’ve been looking for ways to soften the edge on our favorite utility-wear.

Naturally, we remembered the lacy ankle socks that our mom’s dressed us in. These from Sock Dreams are playful enough to add a bit of Lolita to an otherwise biker-esque outfit.

We can’t wait to scuff up our new Docs while we reminisce about hopscotch on the playground.

what a great idea! I was just thinking about those childhood socks the other day (worn then with patent mary janes of course) and was wondering how to rework the idea into a modern grown up look. Love this.

Cute! Any idea on the shoe in the picture? I'm liking the buttons and low heel.

Nice idea some color accents wouldn't hurt either.

As your mom, I remember how adorably cute these socks were when you first wore them. They're still adorable and cute...just like you! Love ya!

I was thinking it looked a little Victorian to me. I really like it.

I've always been a little afraid of docs, just because my sister had a pair in the 90's that i remember clearly, and they were awful. but recently, i've really been wanting some.

I'm not sure where these shoes are from, a quick search turned up nothing too similar... so vintage would be my guess.

And thanks Mommy

Any suggestions on where to get boots like these (but not docs)? I've seen a lot of girls in NY wearing this style in black or brown?

you're kidding, right? The boots are hideous and no doily socks will overcome that. Get real.

Yeah, there's nothing sexier than mannish shoes that clunk around like army footwear. jeez. Grunge was bad enough the first time around, people.
