DIY: Dries-It-Yourself

driesdiy2.jpg

If it walks down a Dries van Noten runway, there’s a good chance we want it. Like, really really badly. The arm cuffs for Spring 08 were no exception. And since safety pins are a little more in our price range, we took to the craft store for this one (and added our own creative flare too)!

What You’ll Need:
- Size 0 Safety Pins (about 80 per bracelet)
- Beads (Bugle and Seed)
- Elastic Beading Cord (2 ft per bracelet)
- Pliers
- Any other Sequins, Trim, and Notions

If you get lazy like us, add:
- Hot Glue Gun
- Elastic Band

—JAZZI McGILBERT

What to do:

Make Safety Pin Bracelets and Stack

1. String Beads on open safety pin.
2. Close pin, and use pliers to pinch head closed
3. Fold 2 ft. elastic cord in half.
4. String the first pin by threading one end of the elastic through the coil, and the other end through the head of the pin.
5. String the second pin with the head in the opposite direction.
6. Continue alternating head/pin side up.
7. Slide pins away from fold, and cut elastic at the fold.
8. Knot.
9. Repeat.
10. Stack.

Or if/when you feel the carpel tunnel setting in….

After one or two bracelets, glue beads to elastic band and fake it (won’t hold up as long).

Brilliant! Although you didn't use the same colors, I really like how you made it your own. But what would it match??

Jazzi McGenius strikes again with awesome, crafty projects. I might attempt this one too. . . though the beading does look a tad bit tedious. . .

I love this...I robably wouldn't make mine as large, but I totally want to try it. I actually did try it once, but I had problems with fitting the safety pin over the cord. Maybe I got the wrong kind. Any brand suggestions or helpful hints?
