Gotta Have Sweet, Gotta Have Juicy Couture

Mar 31, 2008 @ 4:13pm

EMMA your name poses a dilemma.jpg August 2007: It was the quote pulled 'round the world. Fashionista Diaries' cast member Nicole told everyone that her favorite designer was Juicy Couture.

Fast forward to September 2007: Karlie Kloss, Teen Vogue cover girl, adds Juicy to a "three way tie" between Miuccia and Marc.

And then last Thursday, veritable cute girl Emma Roberts, talks shop with Stacie Farber, and sandwiches the suburban staple between Luella, Marc, and Miu Miu on her list of favorites.

Are they paying these girls to say this? Do adorable, rational teenagers with access to anything money can buy really choose Juicy over say Charlotte Ronson or Trovata?

Because if so, we are really out of touch with high school girls...

It's interesting... Because although the majority of items within Trovata and Charlotte Ronson collections is always highly covetable, I was intrigued to find a few (with emphasis on few) items from Juicy very nice pieces.
It's good, when money is no object, to mix and match. Although I do agree, it wouldn't be a 'favourite' as such.
It's too much. Anyone who creates tracksuits worn by z-listers (mainly referring to great britain here) shouldn't be of noteworthy credibility.
Then again, look at what happened with Burberry. A few years back, the checks were worn by chavs and were synonymous with 'trash-fashion'. Maybe Juicy is going through some sort of similar transition.

juicy's really stepped it up lately. dont they have a fancy dress line too? i'll find myself looking at clothes and thinking they're really cute, and then looking at the label and seeing that it's Juicy Couture, and being totally surprised by it. i dont think juicy couture is just velour sweatsuits anymore.

ew. juicy is so gross

almost everything, esp. their handbags scream walking billboard! they are not even cute, well if people count things that say "juicy girl" and "juicy girls rule" to be cute then i guess they are

but why would anyone who has enough money to buy one of those bags or any designer bag for that matter buy one of those nasty velour and embroidered handbags whose shape cannot be altered?

why not buy a marc by marc duffle, or a simple kate spade bag instead, that doesn't scream i am five years old?!

paid. i'm not even proud of the fact that i wear old juicy anymore. if i ever wear a juicy sweater or whatever and someone asks me about it, i say its from barneys instead of who it's by.

i'll be honest...i don't own anything Juicy, but I have come across some of their stuff on shopping websites and thought, "oh, that's cute." i am not talking about those awful sweats, but their coats and such. this, for example - http://iofferstores.com/i/33018886?store=1 (sorry, couldn't find their winter stuff on a retailer site)

if it wasn't labeled as such, i would never guess it was Juicy. maybe that kinda stuff is what makes these girls like the brand? one can only hope because if they're not paid to say so and it's for the sweats, that's just terrible.

That stuff is so expensive, how can teenagers even afford that stuff? Mom and dads are certainly busting their balls to buy all that crap clothes

i wear juicy and I'm a high school girl!
i think you can't just wear a whole outfit made of juicy.
i usually just buy cute thing (not splattered with logos) that work.

i think the reason everyone thinks of juicy and shutters is because they think of velour pants and sweaters the minute they hear it.

i think those people need to go to the juicy website and look at some of their clothes (not sweat suits)

Quit being such fashion snobs. You're talking about teenage girls. Having loads of money does not necessarily obligate someone to wear "better" designers. These girls are only young once, let them have fun and wear what they want.

it is true, juicy did step it up. girls at my high school still wear tshirts, bags, and those tracksuits with the hugest logo on them but even though I hate "walking advertisements" like that, sometimes some of the stuff is pretty nice when you dont even see the logo first. I guess that Juicy has two categories: the clothes with the logo itself or feminine dresses and tops that are pretty cute. I'm guessing that Emma and Karlie buy and wear the second category.

I've been impressed by some of the juicy clothes, really it's the coats and some jumper type dresses - and I HATE anything that screams juicy which makes it very surprising for me.

ewww.

juicy does have some nice pieces, but those aren't the ones teenage girls (minus me) are obsessed with.

they want the ones that scream walking billboard. especially the purses. ick!

Juicy actually has some nice pieces, that aren't too blatantly Juicy but still very girly and covetable to a young girl. I totally imagine Nicole lusting after Juicy terry handbags, but Karlie and Emma probably like the cropped trenches and leather jackets. Juicy track suits were outcasted at my upper class high school, but when a Juicy store opened nearby, the "mean girls" started wearing the white eyelet dresses and chain bracelets.

But then again, I've always found Trovata overrated and Charlotte overpriced. Many Juicy pieces seems pretty nicely made, and the Couture Couture is a tween dream.

im a high school girl and even though i dont have much money for clothes, if i did there is no way id spend it on juicy couture. i just think it looks a bit tacky (even the non-tracksuit stuff, although i know they are getting better). id go for zadig & voltaire, acne jeans, or heimstone or something if i had that kind of money. but sadly, there are a lot of high school girls who think juicy couture is the height of fashion, and love to accesorize it with uggs. sigh.

I hate all of the velour shit like tracksuits and t-shirts and handbags but the regular Juicy Couture clothing is actually pretty cute. Like guest at 4:46 said, I'll look at cute things, then see the Juicy tag and be all, "Seriously?"

But that's the way I'd rather shop, than look for the label to determine whether or not I like it.

As a teenage girl, I have to say that Juicy really disgusts me. Their purses are not cute, they just scream "I'm rich and I can afford to shell out a ton of money for this designer handbag." Well yeah, so can I, but I would never dare to spend it on something as tacky as Juicy merchandise.

Agree that Juicy has some cute dresses, esp for the girly teen set. Trovata is fab, but more tomboyish in feel.

But who wears Charlotte Ronson?? That was random...

Believe it or not, American high schoolers are MORE obsessed with Juicy Couture and UGGs than by A&F and Hollister. True.

I HATE the tracksuits, but I am quite happy they never caught on at my school. I do agree that they've gotten better.
Did anyone else love how they had "Juicy Crittoure" Pawfum, the ad made me laugh.

JUICY IS NOT JUST TRACKSUITS & TACKY T-SHIRTS.

They have some adorable preppy/lady-like jackets, blazers, dresses, blouses, usually with a '60s vibe. I have an amazing Juicy jacket - black with gold anchor buttons, peter pan collar, 3/4 length sleeves, mid-thigh length -- I get sooo many compliments on it and people can't believe it's Juicy.

My cousin is friends with the original designers and the tracksuits was just the way they hit it big and got noticed, it's not what they're totally about

Well I'm 25 and definitely not in high school, but I love juicy. I would definitely consider their nicer stuff (not the tracksuits) to be on par with Marc by Marc.

Juicy does have a more refined clothing line (as many people have mentioned above) and the stuff brings to mind a cross between preppy marc and nanette lepore. It's just unfortunate though, that some people insist on smothering themselves in the velour and terry outfits, which is in poor taste. Hence, anything Juicy makes is guilty by association.

Juicy Couture = epic fail

I hate that high school girls consider Juicy Couture and UGGS to be the epitome of fashion.

After reading this post/replies, suddenly feeling VERY out of place on this site... as a non-high-school, full-time-employed 26-year-old...

Am I alone here? And when did high schoolers become so fashion-savvy? Not to knock any of you; you likely know more about fashion than me.

Just saying... I didn't know fashionista had such a young audience!

hey guest @ 11:55,

actually the average age of our readers is 26 - but obviously, younger readers comment on stories about younger people, older people comment on stories about older people, etc. so you are totally not out of place at all!

I was getting madder and madder well the above comments. I love Juicy Couture and despite a few questionable purses and such, they do have fashionable clothes. Or maybe my favorite, amazing Juicy Couture jeans that people always compliment and I scrounge on eBay for have made my biased.

I know people will hate me but I actually like the tracksuits. The strange thing is, I hate wearing brands that say the brand on them. But I usually rely on it when I'm traveling, it's the weekend, or I'm feeling super lazy. Besides, I only own 1. I don't like a lot of the Juicy bags. There are a few that are exceptional, but not many. I dunno, I just really hate the velour. I don't own much there, but I don't care. I'd rather spend my money at Urban Outfitters. (Only 'cause I'm 12 and if I ever wore Marc Jacobs, whom I love but can't afford, the girls wouldn't care. They like Abercrombie, Hollister, UGGs, and being a copy-cat of Maddie Lawton. *shudders*)
