Quote of the Day

“I am dealing with women. Their sensuality moves me. But the girls around me are rarely sex symbols in the carnal or voluptuous sense. I prefer Johanna Preiss or Charlotte Gainsbourg to Scarlett Johansson. I prefer Francoise Hardy to Marilyn Monroe.” —Nicholas Ghesquiere in Purple magazine on his love for androgynous women with good legs.

With all due respect, as I suspect this super-talented man ultimately prefers MEN, of course he would find only androgynous women attractive. ???

Eek, my morning pancakes squirm guiltily! But surely this is no revelation, we know fashion loves em boyishly endowed and giraffe-legged by now?

the industry= humbert humbert, its ultimate elitism. this standard of beauty is barely attainable to anyone over twelve (dakota fanning!) but that's fashion for you eh?

Nicolas, not Nicholas. And Ghesquière, not Ghesquiere.
Sorry, had to do it.

poor me. I have to wear a bra, so nic won't find me attractive and in turn the rest of the fashion world won't either. (eye roll, if you couldn't tell!)

I understand where he's coming from. There is a difference between overt promiscuity and a subtler sensuality that is based not only on the body, but what is exuded by one's entire presence. For him, those with a particular aesthetic, coupled with a particular attitude, are most attractive. He thus designs clothes that exhibit this aesthetic and this vibe.

I too like androgynity, but I'm not saying that everyone ought to agree with me. I'm so sick of people saying that attractiveness is restricted to a particular body type. Everyone has their preferences. And I don't think Mr. Ghesquiere is saying anyone should mold themselves to his aesthetic. If you like what he sells, buy it. If you don't, there are about a million other designers out there peddling their respective wares.

I am so sick of people talking about what body type they want to hump. Who gives a damn? People should stop talking about it. It's rude, and it makes women feel inadequate.
