Nina ricci paper weight?
i'm guessing it's not two different things or two of the same thing. it's one thing with pictures taken from the top and bottom. the right looks like the chest. the left looks like the top of the wings.

OK! actually, guest@7:49am came incredibly close - it's a makeup compact (the bird head twists off to reveal lipstick, there's a mirror and powder inside and there's even a tiny pillbox), designed by salvador dali for elgin america. it's called "bird in hand" and was designed to fit perfectly in the palm of a woman's hand. it's pretty rare. i love some of the guesses though (i'm looking at YOU, rasha!)
