Streetwalker: Soyez Green

Mar 28, 2008 @ 10:57am

Suzanne Streetwalker.jpgSuzanne, 30 , Executive Assistant

Got Her: Texting a friend at Style.com's party at Glass Houses last night

Stalked Her: Because anyone who goes out in green tights deserves to be noticed

Shot Her: Because upon closer inspection, we realized the tights are genius (we noticed her from across the room and it was super packed), and there was something really cool happening on her back (click through!)

She Says: "I originally had on just black tights, but they had a huge snag in them, so I switched to this green pair I got at Target instead. And this is actually a long, open-backed top! I sewed straps into the back, and made it into a kind of dress!"

We Say: We're green, people.

Sweet looking lady, really, and I see what you are getting at in terms of creativity and concept, but it all comes off looking a bit cheap, no? The boots look like they are made from trash bags and straps are very unfinished. But she gets an A for effort.

Love love love the shirt/tights combo, but the shoes need to go.

I don't think the boots look bad at all. I love the creativity of it all. I would have left out the bottom strap in the back, but overall it's a really sexy original look.

Maybe it's just cause it's Friday and I'm tired but, what does "Soyez" mean? I mean I feel like you're trying to make a play on SOYLENT green but maybe I missed something.

It's a bit much with the open back -- I think with the super short hem and bright tights, the top would have looked better if it weren't sleeveless and backless -- all that skin makes her look like she's trying too hard.

The tights are a great color, though.

No, no, no this is just a mess. Looks like 8th-grade Home Ec project gone wrong. No wonder she is shy about showing her back.

"Soyez" is the plural subjunctive (vous) form of the verb "etre" in french, which means "be"!

I almost bought this shirt/dress! It is by a Japenese designer. I would have bought it had I seen that you can wear it this way. Not sure I could rock it like this girl can...

oh also the straps are silk (the dress is wool) and already in the back of the dress, but i think she adjusted them to make them shorter..

Not at all chic. She could pull it off if she was still in art school, maybe, but really? A Style party?

Ironically, I think that the "style" parties are usually where you see most fashion trainwrecks. This looks nicely put together, and very unique. 2 thumbs up...

it might be just the picture, but i'm not particularly crazy about this look.

the tights are a little bit too neon for harshness of the black boots and black top combination (with no other subtle or neutralizing color addition).

remember in clueless when cher explains that she always takes a polaroid of herself before she decides on an outfit? ... well, that's what this woman should have done. it's the kind of outfit that probably looked good at home with dimmer lighting, but with flash, it's a whole different... eek.

also the top. it's a little too short ... especially since she didn't even make the shortness of it interesting or exaggerated by playing with the length of her boots (actually i hate the length of her boots)..or even by playing with her hair.

Not really digging. Like the color combo, but don't like the way it's put together. I think she could have gone with some black peep-toe heels instead, maybe with a black mini-dress with short/cap sleeves. For a sleeveless turtleneck mini and boots, the green is a bit, "Eh."

I can kind of imagine people looking at the back of her dress and making a funny face -- it really doesn't look well-sewn.

But she gets big points for risk-taking! Kudos for that.

It is impossible to decide with a bad shot! Have a chat with Scott Schuman, even if you aren't shooting with an expensive camera, there are ways to take better photos. You also occasionally distort the proportions of the image. It's amazing that the people of this blog, who claim to have "taste", don't seem to want to bother with the quality of a picture.

please stop thinking you can speak French. "Soyez green" is the ugliest sounding franglais i've ever heard and living on the Cote D'Azur i've become accustomed to shrugging it off from tourists (hey, at least they're trying), but this is borderline offensive.

I just bought these tights at Target today ($2.98 on clearance); they really are a hard color to work with because the color is bright, but still dense, if that makes any sense -- so with a lot of black it might be too "heavy."

Anyway, if I never wear them at least I only paid $3. But I do hope to wear them...

Geez people lighten up! Why is everyone so hostile around here?

Kudos to her for her creativity, and the fact that she personalized her outfit. I'm not saying I could rock it, or if it is generally an "amazing" outfit, but I love the green tights and I like the back of the dress (sans the lower part). The boots aren't my style, but they aren't completely heinous, either.

I think the green tights are a unique substitution for a more common option, an effort to "spice" up the outfit. It is interesting how varying people's opinions are, they either hate it or love it! Depending on where you live, where you're going and what that person's look and personality are have anything and everything to do if the green tights look can work.

I do agree that the picture is not completely flattering. (Not hating on you Natalie!!) But the dress is amazing. From what I remember of the dress, she didnt sew in the straps, just made an adjustments to them.
