Not So Big Love

Mar 03, 2008 @ 3:12pm

chloeopeningceremony.jpgThe Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony lookbook is online.

Thoughts:

Chloe channels Carrie Bradshaw circa 1998 - not the best style to emulate.

When I was seven, my mom bought me a matching floral tank and shorts. I threw a temper tantrum and threw the ensemble out the window - this stirs up familiar feelings.

Maybe I would like the clothes that are stuck behind those floaty, artsy clouds? The styling is...well...let's just say the smile on our face was more chesire than nice.

Crop tops, bobby socks, leather "Ricky-from-Project-Runway" hats, turbans, zippered spandex bodysuits - I'm feeling sick.

The 90's are back in a big way.

I was really looking forward to this, Chloe. I'm bummed.

***p.s. Natalie loves it all.

Note: There is nothing wrong with your computer. It seriously looks like this.

Chloe is reliving her "KIDS" days! As ridonkulous 90's fashion is. I love it!

Haha! Love it. I like the collection though I probably, make that definitely, couldn't pull off most of it. But Chloe rocks it, much like she rocks everything.

I just REALLY wish the lookbook didn't look like it was made on a broken xerox machine.

I love the collection, but not the price. I went to check it out and there was one dress I really wanted, but the $500 tag deterred me. The best shoes were up in that range as well. The quality does not match the numbers -- honestly, I went to Urban Outfitters the same day and am sad to say I saw very similar looks for about 1/16 the cost.

I'm waiting for the sample sale.

oh no...
someone should do the world's eyes a favor and burn all of those floral ensembles.
i was so looking forward to this collection. sad.

I agree about chloe pulling it off - but I look at these lines the same way I approach target's go international lines. I'll find 2-3 pieces of individual things that are rockin' and that I can mix on my own and create my own awesome looks.

why pay $300 (or whatever it costs) for a Brenda/Kelly 90210 style dress you can find at a thrift store or worse, H&M, for $20?

At least she partnered with opening ceremony and not, say, target to give small business a boost. Still not enough incentive to spend the $$$.

I LOVE the collection but I think it is way overpriced. I tried on some items this weekend at OC and they were rather flimsy and not worth the price tag.

I'm really wanting to feel it, but I just don't.
Usually, I love her style but it doesn't really translate here, for me anyway.
I think Syako's right, maybe find a few pieces and mix them with what you've already got to get something with style.

The pieces could be cool apart from each other... but they are styled very literally.

i read in page six mag that she was basing her pieces on things she would've like to wear when she was a teenager but i didn't think they'd be THAT literal. i like some of them individually though.

Some pieces I love and some are ok but I'd never wear them. Like some people said there are good pieces to go with other stuff. I wasn't really looking forward to this but I am looking forward to 90s fashion to come back ... I'm getting a bit bored with the constant 80s references

some are the leopard pieces are ok. i like the pencil skirts but the 90's floral is too much like a poufy dress my mom made me wear when i was about 7 years old. i hated it.

The picture at the top reminds me so much of this dress (not completely, but in the sexy tone of it). I think they are both really saucy and fun.

The pictures are riduculous, but in a kind of cool arsty way. I think that some individual pieces could be nice by themselves, but altogether- a bit "remember the 90s!"

Haha I kinda love it. Maybe as a child of the 90's it's been embedded into my skull that this kind of stuff is fashionable. It's definately refreshing after all the 80's revival.

it is way too early for 90s nostalgia, especially since the 80s reinterpretations are *finally* getting interesting. (balenciaga's shoulder pads & florals made all the pain and suffering worthwhile)

she dresses like shit anyway, i don't understand why she's branded with the 'style icon' tag. nothing she wears is innovative and i don't know why any self-respecting person would want to dress like her.

Shame, I just don't like it. I was so excited about this after seeing her on the cover of Blackbook, but it totally doesn't have any of that vibe at all. Someone should tell her PR people not to get my hopes up like that. Boo, sadness:

This collection is the reason Chloe is an international fashion muse and style icon and you are a person who writes words on the internet.
