Would You Wear Bloomers?

Mar 12, 2008 @ 2:09pm

miumiuspring08.jpgBecause I totally would.

I know, they seem a bit silly. But hear me out.

I'm short. The dresses in my closet - and my closet's pretty much only dresses - are very short because I'm under the impression that the shorter the dress the longer my legs look. And this works fine in the winter because I can wear really opaque tights and flats.

But my spring and summer dresses have to be longer for decency's sake, and because I tend to wear giant platforms when it's warm. But if I had bloomers! Oh the short dresses I could wear with bloomers!

As Brett pointed out, "They look like Steven Alan underwear," which is so true, so cute, and so much more reasonable than Miu Miu's.

So if you see me walking down the street this summer, in what you think is my underwear and a really long top, it's actually my favorite pair of bloomers and a recently hemmed dress.

But would you wear them? Or do you think they're the silliest trend since fake glasses?

The people that I know who wear them are all short.

They'd be useful on my side of the height spectrum, though, since the overwhelming majority of mass-market "short" dresses barely cover my ass.

you can also wear a pair of biker short's or cutt off leggings underneath. thats what wore all summer under short dresses/skirts.

I love them! They are kind of a must in summer no matter what length your skirt is (I am referring to the Steven Alan ones that I got last summer). They are great when your skirt blows up when you are walking down the subway steps, or over a subway grate a la Marilyn Monroe (it really does happen). And I am over 50, although you would never know it.

I wear bloomers. A company called thesethreethings is making adorable bloomers for Spring!! They double as a high waist bikini bottom. Obsessed!

I've been wanting bloomers for years! The second Topshop/H&M bring out a pair, I'll be snatching them up and layering them under my dresses. Or possibly wearing them on their own, depending on sheerness...

i've been wearing bloomers under my minidresses ever since a strange man tried to get an "upskirt" photo of me on the subway with his cameraphone. take that peeping tom!

A must for short girls! They help me feel slightly less exposed in short dress and skirts, like tights do in the colder months. So say yes to bloomers and no to exposed bottoms!

i've always entertained the idea of wear spandex shorts under my tiniest dresses (hey, tall girls want to show off their legs too) but now i'm definitely thinking bloomers would be a much more chic, feminine alternative.

I'd rock these happily. Maybe I'm a nut. . . but I think they are great.

I need to see them on you guys - it's questionable. Would you really wear them out?

i love bloomers. they're so much more chic than shorts under skirts and dresses. also, they're pretty cute by themselves if you can pull them off.

bloomers are so much nicer looking than thongs, lovely material to play with also, TY
