We didn't either, until we heard this:

Like Eve, the R&B singer will serve as a face of Cartier's Love Bracelet this season.

She's gorgeous, poised, and quite eloquent, so we're sure she'll be a fabulous spokeswoman for AIDS relief and research, but the choice does have us a little perplexed since we haven't heard her songs on the radio since... um... college?

So Ashanti is really like the Minnie Driver of hip hop: Totally great, totally talented, but somehow still sliding off the radar despite buzz from 1999.

Maybe this is prelude to a comeback? After all, if diamonds are forever, perhaps they can inject her with some sort of longevity.

I was just wondering yesterday where Ashanti went, and then I realized I didn't remember any of her songs... but hey cool question has been answered, thanks!

LOL there was not other R&B artist with talent out there for Cartier ha? I'm sure she was the last choice, she really can't sing ( lispy voiced), her lyrics are wack typically consist of multiple "baby"/"babies" in a row. Oh and finally she claims to be a dancer but has the grace of a 3 toed sloth.

(a continuance of bastylefilegirl's thoughts) ehm, 'totally great' and 'totally talented'? in a label-made cookie-cutter r&b wanna-be singer-type fashion. i never heard a song of hers that convinced me she had any sort of 'talent' or 'great'ness - rather a marketable face (post-major makeup session) and, let's face it, booty. not impressed, and not the least bit interested in a bracelet with her name behind it. dicey move, cartier. (baybeh, baybeh, baybeh, baybeh, baybeh) yawn.

Ok, so i dont like her too much either but i think it kinda sucks that you guys dont know about her new album or song...shes not the best R&B singer out right now but to ask if you "remember" someone when they are out promoting their new cd is somewhat direspectful. so next time how about you do your homework before you post things...

Umm just to make things clear....I actually knew she had an album out as well as that she's dating Nelly and have seen her picture from many hip hop events. I read Essence, Vibe, Ebony, and Jet magazines I was raised on! Her single "The Way that I love You" sucks...and she isn't that great of artist and it is still weird that Cartier would choose her since she lacks talent!

Blugreen, I respectfully disagree and think your comment is a bit shortsighted. Obviously, a lot of people don't remember her, if Fashionista has to do their homework to remember this one note R&B singer, it's fair to ask if people remember since doing homework on her is required. It is not disrespectful in the least, considering they called her talented and gorgeous two things she is anything but.

Minnie Driver is currently in the Fx show The Riches with Eddie Izzard. It's a surprisingly great show...though it doesn't get much publicity.
